Finance Partners for Law Markets

We Know Litigation Risk

Over the last 13 years, our team members have assembled the first publicly listed litigation funder; and have sourced, structured, and invested in over $200 million of transactions backed by tens of billions of underlying claim value in the US, UK, Asia and Europe.  We have financed law firms; we have developed law practices; we have helped develop some of the largest antitrust, price fixing, state arbitration and representative actions in the world; we have helped patent holders assert their rights; and we have supported justice in contractual disputes.

Areas of Expertise

Investing in Litigation

Our team has been investing in litigation risk for over 13 years. We specialise in solving problems of litigators, litigants and lawyers, whether it is a client seeking help with paying for lawyers, a company seeking to monetise a portion of its litigation, lawyers seeking to fund their own operating costs when working on contingent fees, or a start-up litigation boutique seeking to take on bigger cases unconstrained by the conflicts of a bigger multi-practice firm.

Portfolio Management

Litigation is an esoteric risk; and each investment typically involves discrete risks.  The Legis team has broad litigation as well as financial experience and understands the complexities of managing a portfolio of litigation – particularly the need to balance short term turnover with medium-term risk — and avoid the tail risk that can be created in a portfolio of litigation.

Market Knowledge

The Legis team works constantly to keep abreast and ahead of major market developments, whether these are in new areas of litigation, new courts and procedures, new funding markets, or the development of new insurance markets.

Relationships

Our strong view is that litigation funding is about building long-term relationships with law firms, companies and investors.  We value trust and the ability to work alongside our partners in situations which require efficient and effective decision-making.
