Steven Rostovsky - on Watches Inspired by Automobiles

BEVERLY HILLS, CA / ACCESSWIRE / October 17, 2017 / From the beginning of the world, humans have been obsessed with both the passage of time and the desire for speed. When the luxury watch industry intertwines these two fascinations to create unique engineering feats, collectors are rewarded with timeless pieces of luxurious wearable art. Steven Rostovsky, the owner of Rostovsky Watches, buys and sells high-end collectible and exotic wrist watches, including those influenced by auto racing.

When discussing a recent article in WatchTime, America's number one watch magazine, Steven Rostovsky agrees that watches and race cars have been connected for as long as automobiles have been in existence. For instance, both the Rolex Daytona and TAG Heuer Carrera are over a half-century old. However, this alliance is not just part of history. Today, there are more than a dozen collectible pieces coupling fast cars and heirloom-grade watches.

In 2015, Swiss watchmaker Greubel Forsey collaborated with Rolls-Royce on a project that marries high-end horology and automobiles. The idea behind ''Spirit of Time'' was to pair individual Greubel Forsey timepieces with specific Rolls-Royce Phantom models. The vehicles have been reworked inside and out to compliment and reflect features of each watch model. The Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase, for example, was paired with the Inclined Tourbillon GMT and besides other customized features, offered a rear storage console designed to hold two watches in a hand-built case.

Another favorite of Rostovsky is the recently announced 10-year partnership between watchmaker Richard Mille and McLaren, resulting in the world's lightest split-seconds tourbillon chronograph. The Richard Mille RM 50-03 McLaren F1 weights less than 40 grams and its super light mechanism is encased in an improved form of Carbon TPT (called Graph TPT), a first in the watch industry but soon to be introduced into McLaren Grand Prix race cars. The timepiece will be produced in limited edition of 75 pieces, priced at US $980,000. Each watch is accompanied by a 1:5 scale model of the McLaren-Honda racing car driven in 2017 by Double-World Champion Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne.

Although timeless watches have been created in the likeness of luxury automobiles, the connections between wristwatches and cars go further than design considerations. For instance, Road and Track created a list of pairings for those who own fast automobiles and want watches that reflect the same substance and significance. According to Road and Track, owners of the classic Porsche 911 should consider the legendary Rolex Submariner, while owners of the German-made BMW M3 would be wise to pair the car with a German-made Sinn 240. Whether adding to your luxury collection with a car-inspired watch or wearing a watch that espouses your values, Steven Rostovsky hopes to cultivate a passion for mechanical watches through nostalgia, innovation, value, and education.

When not traveling the world in search of exclusive, luxury watches for his extensive collection, Steven Rostovsky resides in Beverly Hills, CA with his wife Janine and their three children: Jason, Taryn, and Alexa. In addition to sharing a passion for watches, the whole family are united in their dedication to philanthropy and social betterment. The Rostovskys have gained a reputable standing in the community through their generous support for multiple Jewish and secular groups, and they tirelessly promote social awareness and charitable activities.
