After Oscars Snub, Won't You Be My Neighbor Is Heading to HBO

Time to feel all those feelings again

Of all the snubs in this year's Academy Awards nominations list, the fact that the Mister Rogers film Won't You Be My Neighbor? got left out in the documentaries category was a painful oversight.

Sure, Barry Jenkins and Bradley Cooper were bypassed for a best director nod, despite their films being heavily nominated in other categories -- and not a single female director made the cut. Meanwhile, Bo Burnham's beloved film Eighth Grade was completely shut out of Oscars contention, and films like Three Identical Strangers and Burning were also overlooked, but Mister Rogers is Mister Rogers! How dare they!

The good news is that the movie is now getting even more attention as a result, and, in fact, HBO has now announced they will be delivering it to subscribers at home on Feb. 9.

For the unfamiliar, Morgan Neville's movie centered on Fred Rogers, the enigmatic television personality whose work shaped the lives of millions of children, and it was the feel-good film a lot of people needed in 2018. Apart from RBG, it was unarguably the most openly celebrated and beloved documentary of the year.

After it was not included in the documentary feature nominations list for the 91st Academy Awards, fans of the film expressed their discontent on social media (jury's still out on whether Mister Rogers would consider that a healthy release of these angry feelings or not).

The movie is already available for rental on Amazon Prime Video, but now HBO subscribers will able to get in on the emotional gut wallop that is this movie as well.
