"We are still in the age of discovery, even here in eastern North America," NatureServe's chief botanist Wes Knapp says, sharing his enthusiasm over the discovery of a new species from Georgia. "The stakes are high for our undescribed species. Juncus snowii is critically imperiled with extinction (G1), and we hope that drawing attention to this species will help ensure its long-term viability and continued existence." The new species is described by Knapp and J. Richard Carter from Valdosta State University in the journal Novon published by Missouri Botanical Garden. The species is found on the Altamaha Grit, a unique sandstone formation in the coastal plain of Georgia. Photos by J.R. Carter, Valdosta State University. https://lnkd.in/erubZAnA
