"The Environmental Justice Power Purchase Agreement, not to be too technical, power purchasing, just the way that companies and non-profits procure solar energy. The environmental justice aspect that was new -- was that I started a foundation called Sharing the Power Foundation" Volt Energy Utility Founder and CEO Gilbert Campbell shared ideas at The Philadelphia Citizen’s #IWSSFest presented by Comcast NBCUniversal. He focused on ensuring green jobs include Black talent and how Volt Energy Utility is building a diverse talent pipeline in clean energy and advancing diversity in clean energy. He also emphasized grants provided by the foundation supporting organizations like GoodrCo., founded by Jasmine Crowe-Houston, and the Sharing the Power Foundation's fellowship, which offers HBCU students internships and scholarships in clean energy and environmental justice." #cleanenergy #solar #greenjobs

I want to extend a thank you to Pencil Energy and Kyle Brauer specifically for mentoring me through this project. With his guidance, I was able to analyze the data from 414 energy rebate programs and design metrics which visualize how the number of eligibility requirements correlate to the rebate values. As many people are starting to integrate energy efficient products into their households, it is interesting to view how complicated or simple these rebates programs can be. During his internship, Shrey played a key role as one of the main authors of the "Electricity Mid-Year Update July 2024" report. DOE/NREL - National Wind Force Assessment: Challenges, Opportunities and Future Needs ( March 2024 Revisions ) Credits to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Renewable Energy Laboratory by Brinn McDowell, Jeremy Stefek, @Elena Smith, Bailey Pons, and Quaran Ahmad A personal summary of the key finding of the report addressing Wind Energy Workforce Gap Conclusion Increasing Wind Installations: Demand for a trained wind energy workforce is critical to meet deployment goals. Workforce Gap: By 2030, an estimated gap of nearly 124,000 workers exists for land-based and offshore wind. Key Actions to Close Gap: - Improve education and training programs (e.g., student-teacher ratios, funding, infrastructure, curriculum). - Enhance job attractiveness (e.g., wages, stability, location). - Increase job awareness through educational connections, internships, apprenticeships, and collegiate competitions. Main Takeaways Hiring Challenges: - Entry-level workers lack desired experience/qualifications. - Insufficient non-entry-level applicants. - Difficulty in hiring diverse demographics. - Lack of demographic-specific hiring initiatives. Education-Industry Collaboration: - Enhance ties between educational institutions and wind industry firms.. - Increase use of educational institutions for recruitment. Internships and Apprenticeships: - Provide valuable technical and transferable skills. - High satisfaction and preparedness among participants. - Significant portion of current/recent hires had internship/apprenticeship experience. Future initiatives and research should focus on enhancing connections between training institutions and employers, assessing digitalization's impact on workforce needs, and improving wind energy curricula. Efforts should also examine apprenticeships' role in hiring, evaluate federal workforce investments, and address geographic job location issues. Key programming should include regional collaborative groups, a job and training platform, inclusive hiring practices, and educational resources for younger students. Downer Energy & Utilities has welcomed very first cohort of High Voltage (HV) Transmission Apprentices – who will be joining its Power Projects team in 2025. Downer said that its HV #Transmission #Apprenticeship Program is the first of its kind in Australia and was developed to help meet the growing pipeline of critical #energy #infrastructure projects it is delivering for customers across Australia. Downer has partnered with registered training organisation, Ergon Energy Network (Energy Queensland), to deliver the required on-the-job and off-site learning. At the completion of the four-year program, Downer’s apprentices will graduate with the highly sought-after Trade Certificate III in #Powerline #Transmission #Construction, enabling them to work on major MHV (132kV+) transmission projects anywhere in Australia. Downer General Manager Lines, Paul Robinson, congratulated the incoming apprentices following their first onboarding session, which took place at Downer’s Milton office in Brisbane in late January 2025 . “Downer’s transmission team is world-class, with a wealth of knowledge and experience from delivering major HV #transmission projects across Australia,” he said.
