President Trump fired the board chair of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), lowering its board count to four, one person shy of the mandatory bodies to make decisions. Funded by the federal government, TVA is the largest public utility in the country, providing low-cost power, economic development and environmental management to 10 million people across the Southeast. Our very own Jake Mitchell is on the frontlines of climate tech innovation — from factory floors to the mainstage. 🙌 He recently visited a textile facility in Porto to see Smartex.ai’s AI-powered defect detection system in action, and his article dives into the lessons startups can take from their journey. 👏 Big thanks to Lisbeth Kaufman and the Amazon Web Services (AWS) team for hosting him in Portugal! 📖 Don’t miss Jake’s insights — and catch him live at #Circularity leading the Startups to Watch Pitch Competition, showcasing even more bold solutions. 🚀 Scaling Climate Tech in Textiles: Lessons from Smartex in Porto, Portugal Last week, I had the chance to visit a textile factory in Porto and see Smartex’s AI-powered defect detection system in action. I came away with a deeper appreciation for what it takes to scale climate tech in complex, global supply chains. Here’s what I learned: ✅ Startup–corporate partnerships (H&M is an investor). ✅ How to avoid the “death by pilot” trap. ✅ Why great tech alone isn’t enough to win over customers. 👇 I wrote a short article that digs deeper into Smartex’s journey and these takeaways for startups building in climate tech. Let me know what you think! Big thanks to Lisbeth Kaufman and the AWS team for hosting us in Portugal 🙌 If you don’t know about their AWS Compute for Climate Fellowship, go check them out. They’re doing great work connecting founders with AWS technical experts to build deep tech proof of concepts across sectors (like textiles, fusion energy, and more). 💡 They take zero equity, and selected teams receive a grant in the form of AWS cloud credits. Applications are open until April 6 for the next cohort! 🏓 And big thanks to Max Easton for being an excellent host for Smartex.ai and humbling my ping pong self-image, I gotta work on my backhand! #ClimateTech #Startups #SupplyChain #Sustainability #AI #ComputerVision #DeepTech #AWS #Innovation #Textiles
