Court Makes It Clear: Rule Requiring Copay Assistance to Count Now in Effect

“We thank the Court for siding, yet again, with patients who struggle to afford their prescription drugs and rely on copay assistance. The Court has clarified what we have been asserting: the rule that states copay assistance must count is in effect. Now, that clear rule must be followed by insurers.”

Congress Agrees to Maintain Funding for Domestic HIV Programs

After House Republicans initially put at risk the nation’s progress in ending HIV, we are relieved that House and Senate congressional negotiators have agreed to maintain funding for domestic HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs. While flat funding does not expand our efforts to prevent and treat HIV or get us closer to ending HIV, it is much better than the alternative we have been facing of cutting vital HIV services and jeopardizing people’s lives.

Biden budget maintains domestic HIV funding & proposes PrEP & hepatitis C programs

While we appreciate President Biden’s FY25 proposed continued funding of domestic HIV and hepatitis programs and acknowledge the legislatively imposed budget constraints and competing priorities, the reality is that, without serious increases, our nation cannot meet its goals to end the HIV and hepatitis epidemics on time. Now, we must take our case for any funding increases to Congress.

HIV+Hep estimates HIV cases averted & cost savings due to long-acting PrEP

The HIV+Hepatitis Policy Institute has issued an updated report showing that the number of HIV cases averted would be 87 percent higher with gradual uptake of long-acting PrEP compared to only daily oral PrEP, leading to cost savings of $4.25 billion over 10 years—further evidence that a national PrEP program that leverages existing systems and programs is needed.

Nation Must Do Better in Ensuring Patients Receive Hepatitis C Curative Drugs

"This situation is completely unacceptable. We have a cure for a serious infectious disease, but people who have taken the time to get tested and know they have hepatitis C are not being cured," commented Carl Schmid, executive director of the HIV+Hepatitis Policy Institute. "The vast majority of these people have health coverage but payers such as private insurers, state Medicaid programs, and Medicare are erecting barriers to patient access."
