In 2018, Chemours announced ten Corporate Responsibility Commitment (CRC) goals aligned with its focus on responsible operations, a more sustainable portfolio, a more diverse and inclusive workforce, and creating vibrant communities where it operates. Since articulating these goals, the company continues to advance its commitments and challenge itself to do more to meet the world’s growing demand for greater equity and safer, more sustainable products.

As of 2023, the company had reduced its absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 52% from a 2018 baseline, on the road to reaching a global 60% absolute reduction of scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030. Chemours is also pursuing energy efficiency initiatives and integrating renewable energy at its sites in a broader, deeper way. The company’s premier innovation center, the Chemours Discovery Hub, was awarded three out of four Green Globes for sustainable building.

As part of its Better Climate Challenge pledge, Chemours has committed to achieving a 50% GHG reduction in 10 years and a 17% reduction in energy intensity at its U.S. sites.

Additionally, as part of achieving its CRC goals, Chemours continues to partner with government, industry, and academic institutions to enable and advance the hydrogen economy and explore how its chemistries can be applied to other companies and industries to achieve more sustainable operations.

The Chemours Company received a 2023 Better Practice Award for launching a corporate roadmap to reduce fluorinated organic compound (FOC) process emissions by 99% by 2030. To-date, 24 FOC improvement projects have been completed, resulting in a more than 40% reduction in FOC emissions compared to a 2018 baseline and more than 3,500,000 metric tons of CO2e, per year of emission reduction.

The Chemours Company received a 2023 Better Project Award for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 1,200 metric tons of CO2e per year through a project to improve boiler control and optimize burner fuel/air to improve turndown, eliminate steam venting, and reduce stack losses.

The Chemours Company received a 2024 Better Practice Award for reducing energy intensity by 3.5% company-wide after launching an internal bonus metric based on implementing energy efficiency for 2023. This metric establishes the foundation for a year-over-year incentive program.

The Chemours Company received a 2024 Better Project Award for achieving over $1 million in annual savings on waste disposal costs at its Corpus Christi manufacturing site by employing a distillation column, which effectively reduced waste by 60% in a single process step.
