While it was revealed on Tuesday, Jan. 28, that the Doomsday Clock is now closer than ever to midnight indicating the probability of a global disaster, beauty brands are keeping their focus on conservation. One such brand is Garnier. The beauty brand is cementing its commitment to environmental stewardship with a partnership with the National Park Foundation to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of the nation’s parks for future generations. The BBI team wishes you a Happy Earth Day!🌍 Today celebrates and honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the importance of protecting Earth's natural resources for future generations to come! Here are a couple ways you can help out today in the local Tampa Bay area. ---> Beach Cleanups: Organize or join a beach cleanup event. Given Tampa Bay's proximity to the coast, this can be a highly impactful way to contribute to environmental conservation. ---> Park Restoration: Participate in park restoration projects. Many local parks may have Earth Day events focused on planting native vegetation, removing invasive species, or maintaining trails. ---> Community Gardens: Volunteer at community gardens or urban farms. These spaces often rely on volunteers for tasks such as planting, weeding, and harvesting. ---> Tree Planting: Join a tree planting initiative. Look for organizations or local government agencies hosting tree planting events to help increase green spaces and combat climate change. #EarthDay #SaveThePlanet #GoGreen

Introducing the third of our #2024StAndrewsPrize for the Environment finalists. Come and learn about the important work our finalists are doing at their public presentations on Thursday, October 31: https://lnkd.in/e55D5tmc The Northwoods Rewilding Network is a Scotland-wide chain of landholdings committed to nature recovery, convened and coordinated by rewilding charity SCOTLAND: The Big Picture. Northwoods land partners share a vision of a vast network of rewilded land and water across Scotland, where wildlife flourishes and people thrive. Despite its majestic vistas, Scotland has become one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. While it boasts a number of examples of rewilding at a landscape-scale, the dual emergencies of climate breakdown and nature loss demand that rewilding must also be accessible to smaller landholdings, so they can contribute to ecological recovery. Northwoods was conceived as an accessible, democratic pathway for delivering ecological recovery for small to medium-sized landholdings of 100 to 1,000 acres. Since its inception in 2019, the network has grown to 85 land partners – 20% of which are community owned – forming a series of ecological stepping stones across Scotland that cover an area of 25,000 acres. The project provides tailored support to enable land partners to overcome obstacles to their rewilding aspirations, including funding support, ecological advice to ensure rewilding is conducted according to best practice, and assistance in developing nature-based businesses to make rewilding economically viable. Northwoods also places significant emphasis on showcasing the success stories of its land partners to expand the network and inspire wider ecological recovery across Scotland.

Creating greener spaces for our communities 🌱 We were delighted to recently welcome Councillor Jennifer Fradgley, Chair of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, to join our team of colleague volunteers in planting 900 hedgerow whips, 900 flower bulbs, 600m2 of wildflower meadow, 200m2 of naturalised grassland and five fruit trees at our Wattons Lodge Independent Living scheme, to provide our customers there with better access to a more biodiverse and high-quality outdoor space. The planting day is just one of the ways in which we are working towards our commitment to ensure that 30% of our outdoor spaces enable nature’s recovery by 2030, as part of our Biodiversity Approach and aligned with The Wildlife Trusts’ ‘30 by 30’ campaign. This #NetZeroWeek we’re delighted to announce a new partnership with the Woodland Trust, the UK's largest woodland conservation charity. As an Official Woodland Carbon Partner, we’ll support the Woodland Trust’s nature-based restoration efforts in the UK. The regeneration of woodland has an important role to play in addressing climate change. Woodland not only has a positive impact on removing carbon from the atmosphere, but it also has other positive effects such as, improving flood protection and developing habitats that support a variety of species. “As we strive to achieve our net zero goals, it’s important to us that we take a holistic approach. This includes taking action to reduce our emissions, as well as exploring and investing in technology and nature-based solutions. “Climate change is driven by more than carbon emissions. Human activity is interconnected with impacts to land, water, nature health and more. We must consider these complex interactions and seek opportunities to generate positive impact in multiple areas. That’s why we’re choosing to partner with the Woodland Trust. We could see the clear and wide-ranging benefits, and we trust that these positive impacts will grow for years to come”. – Joanna Foster, Head of Responsible Business Consultancy Find out more about the vital role of woodland regeneration in the UK here: https://ow.ly/8mGH50SyAQS

Trees are the lifeblood of New York City. Urban forests – tree canopies that help cities breathe – are essential for the public health of city dwellers. This is why we support The Nature Conservancy in their Future Forest NYC program. The Nature Conservancy aims to grow and sustain New York’s urban forest through initiatives like the NYC Urban Forest Agenda. This agenda is a roadmap for the expansion and protection of New York’s urban forest from 22% tree canopy cover to 30% by 2035. “We often take trees for granted, but they play a significant role in our physical and emotional health, especially in the city, where nature isn’t so readily available,” said Emilie Fidock, New York City Associate Program Officer. “This work signals a step forward for historically marginalized communities that are also often the most climate-vulnerable, ensuring the equitable distribution of the ecological, economic, and aesthetic benefits of tree canopies.” This #EarthDay, remember that nature impacts all aspects of human life, from individual well-being to the health of our communities. Everyone deserves to breathe clean air and have access to public parks. Read more here: https://bit.ly/49X1wuF

How do you support the maritime industry while balancing the needs of the environment and surrounding community? In Cleveland, we’re working on the Cleveland Harbor Eastern Embayment Resilience Strategy (CHEERS) which seeks to do just that by generating waterfront access and economic growth through coastal resilience, featuring a range of sustainable solutions along the shoreline of Lake Erie. For over 70 years, there has been limited access to the water’s edge due to a transportation corridor and vertical seawalls. A new park will create a connection point to the water while simultaneously providing coastal protection, natural habitat, and recreational opportunities for the community. The CHEERS project — spearheaded by the Port of Cleveland and Cleveland Metroparks — is expansive, imaginative, and creative in its approach, not just seeking to preserve the maritime economy, mitigate hazards, and foster environmental justice, but also envisions a more holistic and fulfilling existence for the surrounding people and wildlife.
