IKEA Play Report 2024
Driven by concerns for their children's happiness and wellbeing, parents are carving the way for a play revolution. The IKEA Play Report 2024 contains the findings from an extensive international research study on play and playfulness at home.
There's a quiet revolution on the rise – a play revolution. A growing number of parents see play as a key to increased happiness and wellbeing – an antidote to worry and stress in dark times. Over the past 3-5 years the way that play and playfulness is perceived by children and families and how it relates to home has changed, with more parents prioritising play in the home.
The IKEA Play Report 2024 is our fourth Play Report to date, and contains the findings from an extensive international research study on play and playfulness at home. For this report, we surveyed 7,000 children and their parents in seven countries, and spoke to experts from around the world, for a truly global view on play. We also visited 36 families in three countries to understand the status of play and playfulness at home.
Our aim is to understand and convey the deeper layers of children’s lives, emotions, needs, behaviours, and activities at home – and how that affects their play, happiness and wellbeing – as well as the role and perception of play at home.
