MODS has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc. to foster positive character development in children.  This prestigious grant, part of the Fostering Character Through Children’s Museums initiative, supports MODS’ efforts to cultivate positive traits through exhibits, programs and events. Central to this effort is the creation of Building a Better World Together, a permanent exhibit empowering the next generation to become confident, thoughtful leaders.  As one of just 15 children’s museums nationwide selected, MODS is proud to focus on four foundational traits — critical thinking, caring, cooperation and confidence — to help children navigate challenges and act with a purpose. We are deeply grateful to Lilly Endowment for this grant, which will enable us to place character at the forefront of our efforts to inspire hope, spark innovative solutions and empower the next generation to shape a brighter future. 🏅 Calling All Champions in Higher Education! 🏅 Just like athletes who break barriers at the Olympics, Black women in senior leadership roles at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) are making history every day. I'm excited to share an incredible research opportunity from Career Services GOAT, V’Rhaniku Haynes, who's diving deep into the experiences of these trailblazing women with her dissertation titled: "If These Walls Could Talk: A Qualitative Study Among Black Women Senior Leaders at HBCUs and PBIs." 🥇The Goal: To explore the unique challenges faced by Black women as they advance to and navigate senior leadership positions at these institutions. 🏆 Are you eligible to participate? 🏆 🥇Identify as a Black woman (Black, African American, Caribbean, or African). 🥇Currently serve as a senior-level administrator (e.g., President, VP, Provost, Dean). 🥇Work at a Department of Education-designated HBCU or PBI. 🥇Have at least 1 year of experience in senior leadership at an HBCU or PBI. 🏅 If you're interested or know someone who might be, please contact V'Rhaniku Haynes at vh326@mynsu.nova.edu. This #GivingTuesday, we're celebrating the Girl Scouts of Ohio's Heartland AEP Foundation STEM Leadership Center, opening in 2025. The facility features interactive labs, hands-on workshops and a Maker Space for skills like welding, mechanics and robotics. “The AEP Foundation is proud to fund these hands-on activities that will inspire the next generation of problem-solvers and empower girls to pursue exciting opportunities in technical career fields,” said Janelle N. Coleman, AEP’s VP of Community Engagement, Inclusion and President, AEP Foundation.

We’ve been awarded a transformative grant from the The Atlanta Women's Foundation to expand access to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) for girls from under-resourced communities. 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙚? As a 👭women's empowerment and leadership coach who helps women aspiring to public office or considering a career transition, I am committed to leaving a legacy that empowers future 👨👩👦👦 generations of leaders. One area in which I desire to leave an impact is through 📚 education.  When I was a child, school 🏫 was my safe place and I loved to learn.  Despite running away from home as a teenager, dropping out of high school my senior year and enduring many challenges, I still graduated with my class because I had taken extra classes since my freshman year.  My love of learning and those early 🐦⬛bird classes really paid off for me.  After scraping funds together, I managed to get into college, but got 🤰pregnant with my first child so I left the university, went back🏠 home to raise my son, and started community college.  Again, I never lost my 💖 love of learning or my desire to make positive contributions to my community.  Through all of this adversity, the lessons my parents taught me about the🚪 doors an education would open were not lost and I spent more than a decade of my life pursuing my 🎓degrees.  When I graduated 👩🎓 with my first degree, I knew I wanted to help other students at my high school who may have traveled a similar path as me.  Fast forward to 2018 where I am serving as the first Black 💪mayor of my hometown.  I knew that I was uniquely positioned to use my platform to leverage my story with stakeholders.  In doing so, I raised 📣 awareness around the needs of Black students and established the Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong’s African American Civic Leaders Scholarship. To date, this scholarship has supported 20 🧑🎓 students and provided each of them a $2000 scholarship totaling more than more than $40,000. I am extremely 🙏grateful for the many community members who have continued to support this scholarship every year.  And I am proud that this 🏆scholarship, the community of people who invest in it, and the young people we are educating is part of my legacy. I have so much more in store for the 📡 future.
