Over 150,000 trees planted in California’s Eldorado National Forest 💪 In 2021 the Caldor Fire blazed across thousands of acres and consumed untold numbers of trees in nearby communities. Years later, recovery efforts are still underway to bring new life to the burn scar. This project worked to replant a mix of pine species who will help return the habitat for species who depend on trees on the area like : 🐻black bears 🐆bobcats 🐦Stellar’s jays 🦅bald eagles Tree by tree, together we’re restoring forests and creating a healthier, more resilient planet.

In the northern part of Nashville sits Parkwood Estates, a neighborhood that houses generational stories. But like other majority-minority communities, Parkwood Estates has felt the rejection of disinvestment year after year. They’ve also suffered the effects of climate change as summers get hotter with parks and green spaces few and far between, creating a heat island effect. One local non-profit, the Cumberland River Compact’s Root Nashville initiative envisioned a grassroots effort to engage residents to plant free trees, thanks to a grant from the Arbor Day Foundation. 12 neighborhoods were identified where planting efforts would be prioritized. The initiative was launched in the Parkwood Estates neighborhood, where 100 volunteers mostly made up of residents, got their hands in the dirt and planted 300 trees. Many more planting events are scheduled in other low-income neighborhoods. What grows out of this is an opportunity for residents to have a hand in shaping the future of their communities. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gW_daNr2

The power of trees in cities. 8 reasons for greener streets: 🌳 Air Cleaning: Trees absorb harmful pollutants and clean the air. ❄ Cooling Effect: Trees provide shade, reducing urban heat. 🎋 Carbon Capture: Trees absorb CO2, combating climate change. ⚡ Energy Saving: Shade from trees lowers air conditioning costs. 🔊 Noise Barrier: Trees muffle urban noise pollution. 🌧 Flood Control: Trees absorb and filter rainwater. 🕊 Support Wildlife: Trees are homes for many animals. 🏡 Real Estate: Trees increase the real estate value. While we continue to use trees to aid in the fight against climate change, we also need to learn how to adapt to it. The effort to put more trees in the ground is too important to treat arbitrarily. We need to plant future-proof trees in a warmer world. Alongside The Davey Tree Expert Company, we compiled data and a series of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Maps to create a future hardiness zone map- serving as an interactive tool to predict changes in where lines will be drawn for zones over the course of this century. And the projections from the future hardiness zone map are already beginning to align with reality. The USDA released its most updated Plant Hardiness Zone map in 2023, and it indicated a warming of about 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit when compared to the 2012 edition of the map. Many of the plant hardiness zones shifted northward, indicating that historically colder places are getting warmer and warmer places are getting even hotter. The Future Hardiness Zone Map offers critical guidance on how and where to plant trees that will stand up to the weather of today and thrive in the climate of tomorrow. Planting trees where they're needed most 💪 Little Hollywood is a micro-neighborhood, sandwiched between Visitacion Valley and Bayshore Heights, located along the southern edge of San Francisco County. This ethnically diverse mix neighborhood happens to be in the 14th percentile for asthma and 37th percentile for poverty compared with other cities in California. With our partners at Friends of the Urban Forest, we're planting trees here for a number of reasons: ✅ To help create green infrastructure ✅ To provide cleaner air ✅ To buffer construction + train noises ✅ To increase the tree canopy We can't wait to see these trees and this community flourish with their new additions💪

These days, we can all use some stress relief. Luckily nature has just the thing: trees. Studies have shown that walking through a park, sitting in green space, or simply gazing at trees can reduce your blood pressure and stress levels. Did you catch that? Looking at a tree makes you feel better 🤯 Here are a few more facts that prove #ATreeCanBe therapeutic: 👉 Living within 100 meters of a tree reduces rates of depression 👉 Urbanites with adequate access to green space experience 31% less emotional distress 👉 For every 1% increase in green space, city dwellers experience a corresponding decline in stress levels 👉 Children who live near sufficient green space have a lower risk of developing mental health issues in adulthood We’re working on planting more trees in communities that need them. Let’s do it together. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

When a derecho tore through Shreveport, last June, the community was devastated. And nearly a year later, those affected are still recovering. Thank you Rob Marciano and ABC World News Tonight with David Muir for meeting us in Louisiana to see how the Arbor Day Foundation and its local planting partners are restoring trees and hope 🌳
Nearly a year after a storm blasted through Shreveport last June, many people are still recovering from its destruction. Recently, Rob Marciano and ABC World News Tonight with David Muir joined us at a local tree distribution, where the Arbor Day Foundation and other organizations handed out hundreds of trees to help replace the thousands that fell by the insidious winds last year. These newly planted trees will help provide vital shade, prevent flooding and absorb carbon dioxide in their communities. Thank you Rob Marciano and ABC News for sharing how a tree can be hope when we need it most, putting down roots for the long term. Arbor Day Foundation reposted this
Trees are environmental and human health powerhouses. As the world's largest nonprofit dedicated to planting trees with more than 50 years of legacy, we already know all the benefits trees and forests provide people and the planet. But we were curious — do our fellow Americans share our understanding of trees as a natural good? The Arbor Day Foundation's Canopy Report is a wide-ranging study into how America sees trees. Across a variety of ages and backgrounds, the findings are interesting, surprising, fun and, in many cases, affirming. We welcome you to dive into the report and discover the myriad of ways Americans see trees for yourself. While we’re still uncovering new data layers in the report each day, I wanted to share a few initial takeaways that made me think. Check it out!👇
