In celebrating #WomensHistoryMonth, it’s important to recognize the progress women have made and acknowledge the constraints that still hold them back. Women currently make up 47% of employees in the U.S. But for many women, their workload encompasses much more than what’s going on at the office. Caregiving is one of the biggest tasks dominating women’s time and energy outside of work. According to a report from AARP, the average caregiver is a 49-year-old woman who works outside the home, in addition to providing 20 hours of unpaid care to her mother each week. As Women’s History Month nears its end, I think it’s worth asking ourselves if we’re doing enough to support the women in our workforces who are working both on and off the clock.
