Four Women’s Programs Garner CAA Indoor Track & Field Major Awards in Year-End Honors

RICHMOND, Va. (March 23, 2023) – Four women’s programs – Elon, North Carolina A&T, Northeastern and Towson – were recognized with major awards in the reveal of the first-ever CAA Indoor Track and Field year-end honors as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
 
North Carolina A&T graduate sprinter Jada Griffin was named CAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, and Northeastern senior multi Dominique Biron received CAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Year accolades. In addition, Towson freshman multi Leeann Redlo was selected as the CAA Women's Rookie of the Year, while Mark Elliston from Elon garnered CAA Women’s Coach of the Year honors from his peers. 


 
Griffin was also named the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the CAA Championships, scoring 22.5 points and earning three All-CAA finishes. The graduate sprinter was the CAA Champion in the 400m (53.57) and won gold as a member of the North Carolina A&T 4x400m relay team (3:41.62). In addition, she was the runner-up in the 200m (24.19) and scored in the 60 (7.74). Griffin had season-best marks of 53.03 in the 400m and 23.88 in the 200m to lead the CAA in both events. Her time in the 400m concludes the year 43rd in the NCAA. 
 
Biron, the 2022 CAA Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, adds to her trophy case after also garnering Most Outstanding Field Performer accolades from the CAA Indoor Championship. The senior multi was the champion in the pentathlon (4,109 pts), adding third-place finishes in the long jump (5.85m) and high jump (J1.64m) to score 22 points for the Huskies. Biron won the pentathlon at the ECAC Championships, posting a personal-best score of 4,266 points to set a meet and facility record. Her score in the pentathlon ended the year top-10 nationally, while she ranked first in the CAA in the high jump (1.77m) and second in the long jump (6.14m).
 
Redlo earned a pair of top-five finishes at the CAA Championships, placing fourth in the pentathlon (3,354 pts) and fifth in the high jump (J1.64m). The freshman from Brooklyn won the high jump at the ECAC Championships, clearing a personal-best 1.75m (5-08.75). The jump finished the season ranked second in the CAA, while her personal-best score of 3,354 points in the pentathlon ranked fourth in the league.
 
Elliston is the back-to-back CAA Women’s Coach of the Year Outdoors and collects the honor during the inaugural CAA Indoor Track and Field season. He guided the Phoenix to the team title at the CAA Championships behind a remarkable team effort. Elon scored in all 18 events, including eight All-CAA performances, and the gold medalist in the mile (Jette Beerman, 4:56.43).
