Disruption in organ transplantation is underway. Xenotransplantation, like the recent pig heart transplant into a human, could solve the shortage of donor organs effecting patients in need today. Promising early FDA studies show that less toxic, more efficacious anti-rejection drugs could extend the life of the transplanted donor organ or cells, potentially reducing the number of replacement organs required in the future.
The global transplantation market size was estimated at USD $15.1 billion in 2022 and is expected to increase to around USD $33.7 billion by 2032. The lack of available donors has brought the rise of animal produced organs for transplant into humans. According to the US Health Resources and Services Administration database as of November 2023, there are 103,851 men, women and children on the national transplant waiting list in the US alone, and that 17 people die each day waiting for an organ transplant.
Learn from the experts in this field, including a patient who received multiple transplants, sharing their thoughts about these encouraging and exciting new innovations. And important takeaways from an investment perspective.
