U.S. Bank earned a perfect score of 100 on the 2022 Disability Equality Index® (DEI) and was named an American Association of People with Disabilities and Disability:IN “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” for the fifth consecutive year.

The Disability Equality Index is the world’s most comprehensive benchmarking tool for the Fortune 1000 and Am Law 2001 to measure disability workplace inclusion against competitors. The 2022 DEI measured: culture and leadership; enterprise-wide access; employment practices (benefits, recruitment, employment, education, retention and advancement, accommodations); community engagement; supplier diversity; non-U.S. operations (non-weighted).

“This score is a testament to the intentional actions we’ve all taken to build an inclusive workplace,” said Greg Cunningham, chief diversity officer at U.S. Bank. “Our internal activities, programs and strategic initiatives led by HR and the Disability BRG are only part of our story. We believe in equity and inclusion for every person with a disability, which is why we also partner with external organizations that support accessibility inclusion. I’m proud to work with colleagues who recognize the importance of committing to this work both in our workplace and the communities we serve.”

In 2021, U.S. Bank hired a dedicated disability and accessibility consultant to advocate for the experiences of employees with a variety of disabilities. Human Resources also partners with community organizations to increase work opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, employee benefits, like the Employee Assistance Program, provide support to employees and their family members with disabilities, or employees who are caregivers to children, partners, spouses or parents with disabilities.

The Disability BRG fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace by providing direct input on business initiatives, supporting recruitment efforts, volunteering in the community, celebrating culture and community and attending or hosting events. Members of the Disability BRG build community through sharing stories and leading programs and events dedicated to supporting our coworkers who have disabilities or family members with disabilities, like Support Circles.

Kelly Risser, global chair of the Disability BRG, became the Accessibility Banking Director in March 2022. She oversees the Accessibility Banking Program, Accessibility Banking Policy and Digital Accessibility Standard to ensure our customers with disabilities can access and fully participate in our products and services. “In the disability community, accessibility supports equity and inclusion,” Risser said. “We all play a role in creating accessible experiences for people with disabilities.”
