UPSTREAM - and our 10 scholarships for the latest Remarkable Women Cohort There's a lot in the world right now. In truth, there's always a lot. But there's a newness and a rawness as new issues and conflicts arise alongside the long standing issues that seem to be going on and on with no obvious end in sight. I often sit in the guilt of, 'How can I truly help?' before withdrawing into the humanness of 'it's just too much for one person'. I know I'm not the only one. But then I'm reminded of this phrase, which has been one of my mantras for many years: "Do What You Can With What You Have Where You Are" And I know that even though I can't change the world, that doesn't mean the action I do take amounts to nothing. It doesn't mean I can't do anything at all. So perhaps it's a tiny drop in the ocean that we offer 10 scholarship on every cohort of Remarkable Leadership for women in Charities and Social Enterprises to refuel their passion, impact and sense of possibility as they go Upstream to see what can be changed. But it is something that we can do. And so we do. You can do something too. Help us make sure those places go to women with a heart for the world. All you need to do is tag them and point them to our website where they can find more about how to apply. For all you know, that moment to sit with, 'who do I know that really needs this' might create a ripple that you can't even imagine. It has been our pleasure to invite women from Mary's Meals, Mercy Corps, The Malala Fund, Social Bite, Barnardos, Plan International and many more brilliant organisations over the past 8 cohorts. It's a permanent commitment to support those who are doing the Upstream work. Because who knows what THEY might create as a consequence. This year, the percent of women leading Fortune 500 companies finally hit double digits. Now at over 10%, this is significant growth from when I first came across this stat in 2016 when it was only 4%. However, there is still much work to do. With women making up 48% of the workforce, there is still a very significant gap to fill when it comes to representation for women in the workforce. This Giving Tuesday (November 28), you can help close that gap by joining me in supporting Madam President Camp, a unique summer camp experience to help girls ages 11-13 find their true awesomeness. These camps build confidence, instill leadership principles and help these young campers finder their voice. It truly makes a difference in the life of a Kansas City girls!   Girls begin camp gaining a clear understanding of leadership and civic engagement to outline their civic goals and align themselves with areas of activism relevant in their community. They practice how to communicate those goals and topics and lastly, through self-discovery, create a path to their own personal action.    Campers have used their experiences to run for student council, start a cupcake business and even create a public awareness campaign for cleaner rivers.   Campers tell us this experience builds confidence. “If you want to put yourself out there, you can do anything,” says one enthusiastic camper. Another camper used her experience to run (and win) a position with her student council.
