About the MinION Mk1D

MinION is a real-time, portable sequencer that can be used in almost anywhere. It has been used in hundreds of research labs across the world, lowering the barrier to access genomic information. In addition, MinION has been used in some of the world's most extreme environments, and even aboard the International Space Station.

The MinION Mk1D is the next generation of the portable sequencing, designed to be compatible with the new iPad Pro (in combination with the MinION Mk1D iPad Accessory), modern laptops, and MacBooks, via USB-C connectivity.

Improved thermal dissipation capabilities significantly enhances sequencing performance in varying environmental conditions, enabling the MinION Mk1D to perform real-time basecalling, wherever needed.

The MinION Mk1D is currently in development with early access planned later this year. If you would like to be kept up to date, please register your interest. Further specification details will be provided at Oxford Nanopore’s annual conference, London Calling (21–24 May, 2024).

MinION Mk1D iPad Accessory Consumer tablets continue to increase their processing capabilities, with the latest models, now having the specifications required to run a MinION Mk1D. Known for their simplicity, robustness, and advanced connectivity, with many brands now supporting 5G, tablets provide a straightforward solution for in-field sequencing.

The MinION Mk1D iPad Accessory is specifically designed to improve useability and provide a secure connection between a MinION Mk1D device and an iPad Pro. Users will simply dock an iPad Pro, pair it, and then initiate sequencing through the MinKNOW software available on the iPad Pro.

Successful pairing of tablets, such as the iPad Pro, with the Mk1D will further drive Oxford Nanopore’s vision to enable the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere.
