Purchases of Target Corporation's Up&Up branded products containing benzoyl peroxide listed below are covered by consumer protection and false advertising laws. If you purchased any of the products, you may have a claim for Target's failure to disclose risks of benzene exposure.
Target's Up&Up products – including Maximum strength 10% benzoyl peroxide gel acne medication, Maximum strength effectiveness Acne Spot Treatment benzoyl peroxide have been found to contain and/or degrade into benzene. Independent lab Valisure recently published finding of research performed on popular acne products. Several products, including those sold by Target, were found to contain and/or degrade into benzene. Exposure to certain amounts of benzene, a known human carcinogen, is unsafe.
Valisure found that “high levels of gaseous benzene could be generated” from benzoyl peroxide-containing products “and emanate into a consumer environment such as a hot car or bathroom during a hot shower.” Valisure’s data showed “approximately 1,270 times the previously mentioned EPA calculated threshold for increased cancer risk by long-term inhalation exposure to benzene.”
