Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance (SABA)
Airlines and Aviation
Accelerating the path to net zero aviation
About us
The Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance (SABA) is accelerating the path to net-zero aviation by driving investment in, and adoption of, high-integrity sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and supporting companies, airlines and freight customers in achieving their climate goals. Flying comes at a steep cost to our climate — but a solution is ready for take-off. Spearheaded by RMI and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), SABA is sending a strong signal in support of sustainable aviation fuel, which could substantially reduce emissions from air travel. SABA’s founding companies include Bank of America, Boeing, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte, JPMorgan Chase, McKinsey & Company, Meta, Microsoft, Netflix and Salesforce. Founding companies work in collaboration with EDF and RMI to develop a rigorous, transparent system that expands opportunities to invest in high-integrity SAF to all businesses and organizations interested in reducing the climate impacts of flying. SABA’s Founding Aviators group includes Alaska Airlines, Amazon Air, JetBlue and United Airlines. SABA Aviators work with SABA to send a strong market signal in support of SAF. SABA is currently welcoming new members! If your company or organization is interested in joining our mission to decarbonize the future of flight, visit https://www.flysaba.org/

"Being an early adopter allows us to be part of the dialogue on how to work through important topics such as quality standards and sourcing," SABA member Boston Consulting Group (BCG)'s Chief Sustainability Officer David Webb told GreenBiz Group about their recent procurement of #sustainableaviationfuel certificates. "We see SAF as an important part of the solution for us as our business model will always require travel and working side by side with our client." By working with SABA and utilizing the SAFc Registry, they can be confident their certificates are fully traceable, and represent real-world reductions in #aviation emissions. https://lnkd.in/eE6syTeR

Last week, we announced the results of our latest procurement process, which resulted in commitments to purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) certificates representing about 50 million gallons of high-integrity SAF, channeling close to $200 million in investment into the SAF market. To make this investment possible, we connected close to 20 corporate aviation customers with 4 different fuel suppliers and 3 major airlines, meeting a variety of customer needs for low-emissions air transport. Twelve, the only Power-to-Liquid (PtL) SAF producer participating in this collection of deals, is demonstrating how corporate demand can help support novel fuel technologies. “As global demand for aviation and SAF grows, partners like SABA will be increasingly crucial to bring the full range of aviation stakeholders to the table,” said Nicholas Flanders, cofounder and CEO of Twelve. “Innovative power-to-liquid fuels will deliver deeper emissions reductions but need the support of airlines and corporations in order to scale. We’re proud to join with SABA and its collective of forward-minded corporate customers, airlines, and fellow fuel providers to deliver E-Jet fuel and help pioneer the market for high-integrity SAF certificates.” Learn more about Twelve's participation in our latest procurement effort at https://lnkd.in/eS4-3CzA.

Want to learn more about our historic procurement of #sustainableaviationfuel certificates, and why companies from all over the world are joining our efforts to decarbonize #aviation? We invite you to join us for a webinar hosted by RMI's Andrew Chen and Neoteric Energy & Climate's Andre de Fontaine: 🛫 Driving Scale and Sustainability in the SAF Market: Results from SABA's Multi-Year RFP 📆 Wednesday, May 1 🕚 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ET 📍 https://lnkd.in/eSEmwsVt The SABA RFP brought together a range of market actors to execute SAF deals that featured varying term lengths, structures, and fuel types. Despite the variation, three key themes emerged from this process: 💪 the power of demand aggregation ⏳ the importance of long-term contracts ⛽ the progress being made on advanced fuel technologies. In this webinar, a diverse group of participants in the SABA RFP, including corporate customers Novo Nordisk and Watershed, SAF providers World Energy, LLC and Twelve, and Alaska Airlines, expand on these themes from the perspective of the deals they struck and their roles in the SABA RFP. We hope to see you there! #energytransition #climateaction #netzero

The results of our latest RFP process are in! We worked with close to 20 organizations who were looking to reduce emissions from business travel and transport, including AstraZeneca, Autodesk, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Deloitte, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Live Nation Entertainment, McKinsey & Company, Meta, Morgan Stanley, Netflix, Novo Nordisk, RMI, Samsung Biologics, Watershed and Workday to purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) certificates representing about 50 million gallons of high-integrity SAF, channeling close to $200 million in investment into the SAF market. This historic commitment to purchase SAFc, the largest collection of deals to-date, relied on 4 different fuel suppliers, including World Energy, LLC, SkyNRG and Twelve, and 3 major airlines, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest Airlines, to meet the growing demand for low-emissions air transport from companies around the world. While this transaction is a milestone for the aviation industry, there is a long way to go. Current fuel volumes that meet SABA’s requirements weren’t able to meet the demand of SABA members for 2024 and 2025. We hope the strong demand signals sent through this process will inspire fuel providers, airlines, standard-setting bodies and other industry stakeholders to come together for a strong, scalable SAF market, one that is able to provide the sustainable air travel and transport companies and individuals increasingly look for. “The only way to drive structural change in hard to abate sectors like aviation is to shake up existing business models, said Kim Carnahan, Head of SABA’s Secretariat and CEO of Neoteric Energy & Climate. “The recent announcement from the Science Based Targets Initiative opening the door to the use of market-based approaches to address Scope 3 emissions only elevates the importance of SABA’s book and claim system as an innovative and environmentally robust avenue for customers to drive aviation decarbonization.” Read the full release: https://lnkd.in/eM_AgmGs #aviation #sustainableaviation #netzero #climateaction #energytransition
