Welcome to Alpha

Howdy pardner! Welcome to the Open Alpha of Rogue West: Crypto Trading Card Game! The current version of the game has only the bare minimum of features, but this is the base for future updates.

We have a fairly small team, so flexible, iterative development is the most effective. This means that updates will be relatively small but frequent. This way we can be sure that everything works as it should.

We plan to release updates about once a month or more often if necessary. You can see the full patch notes down below. Follow us on Twitter to keep up to date with the development!

Open Beta is expected to be released in 2024.

    You can always find out in detail about our current plans and development deadlines by checking the Project Roadmap. And also be sure to look at the rules of the game. This way you can make an approximate game impression and plan your first deck.

    Please note that the game is currently available only on PC (Windows or Mac) in browsers that support MetaMask cryptowallet (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Brave and Edge). A standalone and versions for mobile devices are planned closer to the full release.

    Major Update 0.10.0 (December 26, 2023)

    New Features

    • New game board featuring high quality artwork instead of simple wooden table (you'll be able to choose preferred board in future updates).
    • First iteration of sound effects, currently for cards and UI only, but more sounds will be added in the future updates.
    • New SFX system to easy add new sounds to the game. Enabled control over SFX volume in Options menu.

    Migration to Polygon

    • Migrated whole card collection to our own smart contract on Polygon blockchain instead of using OpenSea Shared Storefront contract.
    • Old collection is still available, but now the game uses new contract to check card ownership.
    • Re-dropped all the cards to the respective owners on new contract.
    • Fixed some metadata errors that were presented in legacy collection.
    • Moved from OpenSea API to Polygon API as main blockchain data provider.

    Performance & Optimization

    • Reduced size of data transferring to the game from blockchain by storing card images in the game itself.
    • Revamped card ownership check to speed up the loading using batch technique.
    • Reduced size of card images by using a more effective compression algorithm.
    • Reduced game loading time by implementing Unity asset bundles system.
    • Greatly reduced CPU usage (by 4 times roughly).

    Other Changes

    • Full refactoring of Main Menu user interface to fix some long-presented problems (and introduce new ones, of course) and speed up furter UI development.
    • Updated MetaMask integration code, featuring automatic logout when disconnecting wallet from the game.
    • Changed the way game is displaying and launching: the game now runs on a separate page using more space for non-fullscreen mode and starts with a button.
    • Moved project to new Unity engine version.

    Minor Update 0.9.1 (May 28, 2023)

      Bug Fixes

      • Fixed a bug that caused the nickname change buttons to «float away» when switching from Home to any other menu tab.
      • Fixed a bug that caused the user to move to the Cards section instead of Avatars when clicking on the avatar on the Home screen.
      • Fixed a bug where the Rogue balance could sometimes reset to zero if you play a full game and then exit the menu.

      • Optimized storage of game resources to reduce build size and loading time.

      Major Update 0.9.0 (May 1, 2023)

      New Features

      • Simple implementation of in-game wallet. This is part of future Store system.
      • To get the balance of Rogue tokens, the game will request switching to the Polygon network. This network will be used in all interactions in the in-game store in the future.
      • The «Remember Me» switch on the login screen, which allows you to configure the saving of the last player's login.
      • Lots of new UI animations: screens, menus, buttons and other elements.

      Bug Fixes

      • Fixed a bug where the Feast keyword could trigger when beating friendly cards.
      • Fixed a bug where the player might not be able to select targets for the «Extinction» card.
      • Fixed a bug where a card in both players' decks could be displayed in both players' graveyard after being beaten.

      Performance & Optimization

      • Optimized main menu tabs to open faster and consume less resources.
      • A lot of outdated and unused assets have been removed to reduce the size of the game build.
      • Optimized work with some file types to speed up their loading and, as a result, increase the speed of the game launch.
      • Improved caching system, now the player will have to re-download previously downloaded files less often.

      • Updated player profile (added wallet, removed some currently unused stats).

      Hotfix 0.8.3a (December 13, 2022)
      • Fixed a bug due to which the AI opponent could often pass, even with enough cards in his hand to play.

      New Features

      • Music for the main menu and the combat screen (4 tracks in total).
      • Options menu with music volume slider and fullscreen toggle.
      • Support for the fourth legendary card - «The Shepherd».

      Bug Fixes

      • Fixed a bug that caused the «Devil's Prize» card to give more points than it should.
      • Fixed incorrect operation of the fullscreen toggle, now it works immediately, not only after the second press.
      • Fixed a bug where some cards in a player's hand could be highlighted even if they cannot be played at the moment.

          Other Changes

          • Due to the appearance of a dedicated options menu, the old fullscreen toggle is removed.
          • Previously unavailable, the options button on the combat screen now opens the corresponding menu.

          Minor Update 0.8.2 (November 22, 2022)

              Other Changes

              • Highlights for cards in hand: Red - when a card may beat an enemy card, green - when a card may strengthen another card (both yours or opponent's), orange - when a card may be placed on the battlefield (no highlight means no useful action).
              • When taking a non-action card, all potential targets are highlighted on the battlefield.
              • Highlighting all potential targets when using action cards.
              • The selected target of the action card is marked with a special sign similar to deck selected in Library menu.

              Minor Update 0.8.1 (November 3, 2022)

                  • Fixed a bug where the icons on the battlefield could be highlighted after the turn timer expires.

                  Major Update 0.8.0 (October 14, 2022)

                  • Hell Mode: an option for play with an AI opponent whose entire deck consists of rare cards, regardless of the selected difficulty level.

                  User Interface

                  • AI personalization: AI name and avatar correspond to their difficulty level (Crippled, Helpless and Damned).
                  • Added a card filter by type on the graveyard screen (same as in the library).
                  • Added a deck change button on the practice mode screen.
                  • Fixed outdated disclaimer text when a player has less than 10 cards.

                  Bug Fixes

                  • Fixed a bug where the bot could think about its move indefinitely in some cases. This option is still possible, but the waiting time should not exceed 10 seconds.
                  • Fixed a bug that caused the bot to display a white square instead of an proper avatar on the combat results screen.

                    Other Changes

                    • Migration to a new version of the Unity engine (there may be bugs that we missed!).
                    • Switching from WebGL 1.0 to 2.0 to improve performance and compatibility with modern browsers.
                    • A card caching system has been added, which should speed up the reloading of the game by saving card images in local storage on the player's device.
                    • Due to the engine update, the frame rate limit of 60 frames per second has been removed. Now it is not required thanks to the browser's extended support for the new version of WebGL 2.0.

                    Major Update 0.7.0 (September 14, 2022)

                    New Features

                    • New game mode - practice against an AI opponent, including three difficulty levels.
                    • The first iteration of our new AI framework, which will be improved in subsequent updates. At the moment, AI doesn't use action cards, and also doesn't always correctly dispose of keywords.
                    • Option to change the nickname of the player (pen icon next to the player's nickname).
                    • 12 new avatars.

                    User Interface

                    • Added a pop-up notification of waiting for an opponent at the beginning of the combat.
                    • Added a special badge for combat results screen, which is displayed if the player left the game before its completion (closed the game or disconnected).
                    • A pop-up warning when trying to surrender.
                    • The restart button of the match is blocked if one of the players has left the game.

                    Bug Fixes

                    • Fixed a bug that caused the turn timer to fail on the first turn of the combat.
                    • Fixed a bug where a client player could draw the starting hand cards twice at the beginning of the combat.
                    • Fixed a bug that could cause Barter keyword to work incorrectly.
                    • Fixed a bug that caused a player's pass notification to be displayed even at the beginning of his next turn.
                    • Fixed a bug where players' decks could be the same if they both use the random decks feature.

                    Performance & Optimization

                    • The maximum frame rate for the game is set to 60 frames per second.
                    • Accelerated loading of card images at the launch stage.
                    • CPU usage has been significantly reduced.
                    • Various optimizations and performance improvements.

                    • Yet another code refactoring needed to integrate the single-player game mode properly (there may be bugs!).

                    Minor Update 0.6.2 (July 25, 2022)

                      • The rules for generating decks in trial mode have been changed, now the trial deck includes at least one rare and two uncommon cards.

                        • The sidebar with deck info can be closed with a new button (it can also be closed by clicking on the deck in the general list of decks).
                        • The left sidebar on the combat screen can be hidden.

                        • The total number of turns made by both players is displayed on the combat results screen.
                        • Added a quick transition to the Avatars submenu when clicking on the player's avatar at the home screen.

                        Major Update 0.5.0 (April 29, 2022)

                        New Features

                        • Avatars: the player can choose an avatar for his account in the game in the library section. To unlock the avatar, you must first purchase the corresponding card. There are currently 12 avatars available. New ones will be added in the next updates.
                        • Type Filter: the player can sort cards by one or more types in all library menus where cards are present.
                        • Animations: many new animations related to cards in combat, as well as the appearance of the login screen.
                        • (Experimental) Combat Restart: players can restart a match without having to re-create a room in the lobby. To do this, each participant must click on the Restart button on the combat results screen.

                        User Interface

                        • The player sees when the opponent uses any action card.
                        • Added an icon showing that the opponent was disconnected from the game.
                        • The player can remove a card from the deck by clicking on it in the general list of library cards, not only in the list of cards list of the deck.
                        • On the lobby screen, next to the player's nickname, his avatar is also displayed.
                        • Added a loading screen before the start of the combat.
                        • «What is a crypto wallet?» text on the login screen now works as a link to an explanatory article.

                        Card Fixes

                        • Fixed a bug due to which the Barter keyword could be triggered without any effect.
                        • Fixed a bug that caused Barter keyword to force a player to discard a card even if there are no cards in the deck to draw one.
                        • Fixed a bug where the «Bad Moon» and «Blood Moon» action cards did not trigger the Horde keyword if the player has no cards in the deck.
                        • Fixed a bug where the game could freeze when using an action card after playing a card with the Unearth keyword.
                        • Fixed game freezing when trying to use a card with an Ambush or Equip keyword after using some action cards.
                        • Fixed a bug where the player could not select a target when reusing some action cards.
                        • Fixed a bug where the game could freeze when reusing some action cards after canceling the previous use.
                        • Fixed a bug where the selection of the target card could remain after the cancellation of the action card.

                        Bug Fixes

                        • Fixed a bug that could cause a player to get into combat even if some card images haven't loaded yet.
                        • Fixed a bug where a player could be mistakenly given a victory if an opponent disconnected from the game.
                        • Fixed a bug where a player could play any number of cards from a hand when selecting a target for an action card.
                        • Fixed a slightly incorrect deck generation in trial mode.

                        Other Changes

                        • The card interaction system has been completely reworked. This will allow to quickly add new card mechanics and fix bugs related to them.
                        • All available animations in the game are fully synchronized for both players in combat.
                        • Optimization of game resources, which reduced the initial loading time of the game, as well as overall performance.
                        • The turn timer is now disabled if both players are on combat results screen.
                        • The game checks the presence of cards in the player's collection before marking a new or already existing deck available for play.

                        Hotfix 0.4.0a (March 23, 2022)
                        • Fixed a bug that caused the player to enter an empty battlefield when exiting the combat results screen.
                        • Fixed a bug that could cause not all Polygon cards that are in the player's collection to be displayed.

                        New Features 

                        • Combat Results: at the end of the game, each player can see the detailed results, indicating all the remaining cards and bonuses. as well as the total score.
                        • Trial Mode: a player can try the game for free with random deck if he has less than 10 cards.

                        • Fixed a bug that could cause the loading of cards at the beginning of the game to get stuck in particularly rare cases.
                        • Fixed a bug where a player could place an action card on the battlefield in some cases.

                        • When a player takes a card, all the squares on which he can place it are highlighted on the table.
                        • Loading cards hints improvements.
                        • Most of the buttons have been reworked to fit a single style (we are preparing for important interface changes).
                        • Temporarily disabled the ability to sort cards by type on the library screen (we are reworking this interface).

                        • If one of the players has urgently left the game or disconnected from the network, the remaining player is automatically declared the winner.

                        • Fixed a bug where a player could disconnect from the game after placing a card on the table.

                        New Features

                        • Polygon cards support (experimental).
                        • Time limit of 60 seconds per player's turn.

                        • Managing cards by dragging with a cursor (Drag'n'Drop).

                          Major Update 0.2.0 (January 31, 2022)

                          New Features

                          • Deckbuilding: viewing a list of decks, brief info on selected deck, creating and editing a deck.
                          • Graveyard: viewing a list of cards in the discard pile for both players.

                          User Interface

                          • When the player hovers the cursor over a card on the table, an enlarged version of it appears.
                          • Players can see how many cards are in each other's decks and hands.
                          • The cards in the player's hand are highlighted only if he can play one of them, and not during his entire turn.
                          • The fullscreen toggle button is displayed not only on the home screen, but also on all other screens in the game (top right by default, top left for combat screen).
                          • Added the display of asynchronous loading of cards on the library screen: already loaded cards are displayed regardless of whether all the others have loaded.

                          Other Changes

                          • Accelerated cards loading at the beginning of the combat, the player draws his starting hand almost instantly.
                          • The Barter keyword ability works according to its description: first it draws a card, then it discards a card, not vice versa.
                          • The game version label is displayed only on the home screen, it's font size is reduced and the color is darker.
