Missouri Has A Medical Marijuana Program

Getting a Missouri medical marijuana card involves speaking with a doctor and filling out some quick online state paperwork. To become a Missouri medical marijuana patient, talk with one of our Missouri online marijuana doctors. Our appointments are conducted 100% online through secure video chat. They can help to see if you qualify and we will help you through the application process.

Qualifying Conditions:

Before you begin the process, review the following to see if you have a qualifying condition for a medical marijuana card. Here are some conditions that may qualify you for the program:

  • In the professional judgment of a physician, any chronic, debilitating or other medical condition (including, but not limited to, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, Huntington’s disease, autism, neuropathies, sickle cell anemia, agitation of Alzheimer’s disease, cachexia, and wasting syndrome)
  • A chronic medical condition that causes severe, persistent pain or persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those associated with multiple sclerosis, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, and Tourette’s syndrome
  • Debilitating psychiatric disorders, including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress order, if diagnosed by a state licensed psychiatrist
  • A chronic medical condition that is normally treated with a prescription medication that could lead to physical or psychological dependence, when a physician determines that medical use of marijuana could be effective in treating that condition and would serve as a safer alternative to the prescription medication
  • Cancer
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • Intractable migraines unresponsive to other treatment
  • Human immunodeficiency virus or acquired immune deficiency syndrome
  • A terminal illness

As of December 8, 2022, qualifying patients may be certified by a licensed physician (MD, DO) or nurse practitioner (NP). This professional must also be in good standing with the state of Missouri.

  • Parent or legal guardian consent form if the patient is a minor
  • Color photo of your face (must be recent within the last 3 months)

As of December 2022, Missouri removed the “proof of Missouri residency” requirement.

Missouri State Recommendation

The state of Missouri does not mail out physical cards out to qualified/registered patients. Once approved by the state, the patient receives an email notification with instructions to log into the registration system to access their digital medical marijuana card. You can either print or save this card to your electronic device.

When visiting a dispensary – you would need to bring your digital card (either on your device or printed) as well as a form of identification.

Renewing Your Marijuana Card in Missouri

As of December 8th, 2022, ID cards issued after this date will be effective for 3 years. This means you will not need to renew your card for 3 years.

If you already have your card but it is set to expire, you may renew it 60 days prior to and no less than 30 days before your expiration date. The department takes up to 30 days to process applications. Therefore they cannot guarantee that if an application is submitted less than 30 days before a card expires that it will be processed in time.

PrestoDoctor will remind you when your card is set to expire, so you can set up a renewal appointment before it expires.

Can I Own/Purchase Guns With A Medical Marijuana Card?

According to the Missouri state website, Article XIV of the Missouri Constitution “does not reference or prohibit the possession or purchase of firearms.” However, federal law may prohibit owning or purchasing a firearm by individuals who use marijuana, regardless of the legalized marijuana laws in that state.

In essence, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services does not regulate the possession or purchase of firearms. Therefore, they cannot say whether or not you can have a medical marijuana card and own/purchase a gun.

Specific questions about firearm restrictions can be answered by an attorney or law enforcement.
