“It would help to tie to groups of elite level performers outside of these work places to preserve your true identity. It would make you more bullet proof in those environments and also would lead to you not needing to be validated by those toxic elements.” - Dennis Robinson Such a good point, King!! 👑 Whenever I do fireside chats or discussions about the concepts in I'm Not Yelling and Protecting My Peace, participants ask where we can discuss not only the problems with toxic workplace environments but also the SOLUTIONS for how to navigate them with our identities intact. Where are the spaces where elite Black professionals meet to validate ourselves outside of the noise of corporate American standards that do more to tear us down than build us up? I am thinking about developing exactly such a space for group coaching, conversation, and community—one for Black women and one for Black men. It will be selective to ensure that the participants are likeminded in their goals and the objectives to uplift, amplify and support each other in an effort to improve our lives, our communities and society by building mechanisms to reinforce what we already know but have lost touch with: 🎯 We are more than worthy in the spaces we inhabit. 🎯 Being our authentic selves brings value and excellence to those spaces and improves our mental health and emotional wellbeing. 🎯 Our feelings of discomfort when we enter these spaces is valid. But begging the leadership to change the environment hasn’t helped or worked. It’s time for us to change our mindset in COMMUNITY, so we can THRIVE not just survive. Before you ask, it will be a PAID community with tons of resources, networking and learning opportunities but VERY affordable if you qualify to participate.

BROKERS arrange & deliver relevant creative IP to be monetized. 3. SELLERS are companies leveraging cultural equity to sell products. This grinding mill of commercial exploitation generates $15 trillion for everyone except Black communities. [Harvard Cultural Intel Report 2022] Although commerce is the bedrock of our capitalistic environment, an ethical trade standard for commercializing Black Culture is pivotal for creating shared economic value for both companies and Black communities they extract from. What Allyship is and is not. Yesterday’s Black Business Week event amplified many valuable lessons around the topic of Allyship. I learned a lot & met some cool new people. 🫶🏻 Allyship is: ✔️something others get to validate, not you. It’s not a self-proclaimed title. ✔️consistent action, not empathy for one’s situation or experiences. ✔️a personal responsibility to act, in the everyday moments of racism. What can we do, starting now? ▪️Educate ourselves. It’s not up to our black friends & colleagues to do this for us. What can you read or listen to? ▪️Amplify the good stuff. Celebrate successes and achievements of Black colleagues. This years’ theme for BHM is salute our sisters - who can you salute? ▪️Use your platform. Everyone has power and a sphere of influence; question how you can use yours to construct better environments for Black colleagues. The one hugely powerful message that stuck with me yesterday from Aggie Yemurai Mutuma FCIPD was… “you’re going to upset someone; is that going to be the racist friend or colleague you stand up to or is it your colleagues or friends who watch you do nothing in moments you ought to act?” I’m committed to learning & getting uncomfortable. #blackbusinessweek #allyship #DEI

“Find your people.” We’ve all heard this phrase before, but it can be easier said than done for Black professionals. Community is a central element of the Black experience, and proximity is often a driver for finding the people you relate to most. So what happens when you don’t see anyone who looks like you in professional spaces? For Black professionals, connecting with people who look like you often requires greater intention, but the reward can be even greater. Building lateral relationships and networking up is not just about opening doors; it’s about partnering on purpose. Together, we move toward shared goals that positively impact our culture. How has connecting with people who look like you impacted you professionally?
