BIG NEWS! I am incredibly honored and excited to announce that I have been selected as one of the 2024 residents for The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Residency Program! This opportunity represents not only a personal milestone but also a chance to engage and collaborate with some of the world's most innovative and impactful leaders across various fields. I am so excited and still a little taken back to join past residents including leaders such as Dikgang Moseke, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Maya Angelou, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Kimberle Crenshaw and Ta-Nehisi Coates. This year's cohort is as diverse and inspiring as ever, including Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz, scientist Solomon Assefa, global health expert Alaa Murabit, dancer and choreographer Bijayini Satpathy, and novelist Gioconda Belli, among others. I am humbled to join this group of global leaders, each bringing a unique perspective towards solving some of the most pressing challenges of our time. The focus for 2024 on climate solutions, reinventing capitalism, and promoting well-being directly aligns with my passion and work. I am eager to contribute to and learn from the discussions and projects that will emerge from this residency. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to The Rockefeller Foundation and the Bellagio Center, The Rockefeller Foundation team for this incredible opportunity. I am deeply committed to making the most out of this experience and excited about the potential collaborations and ideas that will unfold. Meet Kausar Parveen, a single mother in Multan, Pakistan. When the pandemic hit, Kausar had to shut down her school for women and girls. But she didn't let that stop her. Determined to find a new way to support her family, she launched a clothing business from home, even though it was tough to get materials and find customers. With support from our partnership with CARE Women's Entrepreneurship, Kausar got the tools and training she needed to overcome financial challenges and gain the confidence to grow her business. And she's not stopping there. Kausar has gained a foothold in the #digitaleconomy, using mobile payments and YouTube to boost her business. Plus, she's found a network of fellow entrepreneurs on WhatsApp who inspire her creativity and help her make connections to run her business. She's fighting gender norms, too. She and her daughter get around on a motorbike to meet suppliers and customers, ignoring disapproving looks. Today, Kausar's clothing business is thriving, and she's reopened her school. Her dream? To expand both businesses even more. Her message to other women entrepreneurs is to be brave, be confident, and never give up. "Those who once doubted me now respect me for who I am," she says. Kausar's story shows why it’s smart to #InvestinWomen entrepreneurs. Women like her don't just succeed just for themselves—they lift up their families, communities and economies along the way. As International Women’s Day approaches, the Center’s Payal Dalal reflects on the potential for gender-intentional design to empower women. Drawing on experiences from our partnerships with CARE Women's Entrepreneurship, RISE and others, Dalal emphasizes the importance of designing and deploying products and services that address women’s specific circumstances. She outlines four key areas of opportunity: 📈 Redefining creditworthiness to expand access to responsible lending 💻 Balancing tech and touch to promote digital adoption 💰 Investing in digital wages, along with gender-sensitive training, to support women’s financial health 📝 Rooting out bias in the development of #ai Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eNJg-ATU #IWD #WomensHistoryMonth #InvestinWomen #InspireInclusion #StriveWomen https://lnkd.in/eNJg-ATU
