Eat your own dog food. Yummy? In Software Development, there’s a term called dogfooding that refers to the act of using your own software so you can figure out what’s good or bad about it from the end user/customer perspective. The same concept applies to Data Analytics development. The entire dev team (product managers, analysts, data engineers, architects, visualization developers, data scientists etc) should use the final end product , whether it’s a dataset, a dashboard, a data model, a predictive model or any other analytics solution and use it as an end user would. The insights can be eye opening: - is the solution intuitive? - Is the documentation easy to follow? - Does it actually answer the questions the analytics is designed to answer? - Is it easy to interpret the results? - How will it move the needle and improve the customers’ current condition? If you don’t get that yummy feeling after using your own data analytics product, then go back to the drawing board. The trick: do it iteratively with frequent trial runs throughout the dev process and not through a big bang release at the end. #customerexperience #mindsetshift
