Atlanta Habitat for Humanity

This year has been characterized by celebrating the folks who have impacted our mission over the last four decades, while we still can. Earlier this year an anonymous donor reached out to honor Volunteer Skilled Supervisor, Pat McGauley.  Since the 1990s, Pat has been a staple in the construction of Atlanta Habitat homes and has trained nearly all of the current Houseleaders and Skilled Supervisors. Dunwoody United Methodist Church has kicked off their 33rd home build with us! Thanks the longstanding relationship with Dunwoody, Karen will be building her four bedroom dream home. In her free time, you will find her searching for her latest thrifted find, tackling a new DIY project, or “trying” to learn how to sew. Congrats and happy building! Rayburn was nominated and awarded the Perseverance award for his commitment to change his life after overcoming addiction. He is pursued a career in substance abuse counseling because he wants to support others in their transition to a drug or alcohol free life. He has committed himself to his family, his church, and to helping others to lead a substance-free life. #community #builttothrive #buildthrivegrow #THRIVE #AH4H

Last month, we hosted our annual Boss Talk with a panel of amazing women who have broke the mold and became their own Boss. They encouraged homeowners to bet on themselves with nuggets of wisdom like: “Accept being delusional.” “Do the scary thing.” “If you have purpose, if you have passion, everything else will follow.” Boss Talk is the kick off event for our entrepreneurial program, ending in a Shark Tank style business pitch competition in July. #AH4H #buildthrivegrow #builttothrive #buildingcommunity

Clark and Lane Howard learned the story of Habitat for Humanity International in the early 90s. He learned about community volunteers coming together to build alongside a future homeowner for a low price, like the 1800s Midwestern barn raising tradition. He was immediately sold on Habitat, so he and his wife began saving money. Clark Howard, Inc. donated all his speaking fees for the next two years to fund his first home in 1996 for Ms. Tinnie Prather. From there, Howard caught, what he calls, the building bug and has been back to build every year he was able. This year, the Howards completed 98, 99th and 100th homes for Tiffany, Brittany and Zeroline! After building her home, Jacqueline continued her relationship with the Habitat community. Jacqueline won a business launch award for her Butter Me Up by JRena business. She then spoke on the Boss Talk panel encouraging others. She set up a table at the Volunteer Awards in 2019. She always steps up to serve her time to inspire others. She joined toastmasters and became a executive leader in the club. She was awarded the 2024 Full Circle Thrive Award for continuing to donate her time and talents back to Atlanta Habitat to benefit other homeowners. Congratulations Jackie!
