Connie N. Hess, MD, MHS is an Interventional Cardiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, as well as a faculty member of CPC Clinical Research, an Academic Research Organization affiliated with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Dr. Hess earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.  She served as a Cardiology Fellow at Duke University Medical Center, where she also completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology.  She earned a Masters degree in Health Science at Duke University and served as a Chief Fellow during her Clinical Research Fellowship at the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

After completion of her training, Dr. Hess joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Duke University Medical Center and the Duke Clinical Research Institute.  She was an active member of the cardiac catheterization labs at Duke University Hospital and the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  At the DCRI, she participated in clinical trial operations for multiple cardiovascular studies and served on the Steering Committee of the registry-based SAFE-PCI for Women trial and the Clinical Events Committee adjudicating endpoints for many large, international clinical trials.  Dr. Hess also led observational investigations in various datasets focused on improving outcomes after acute coronary syndrome and percutaneous coronary intervention.

Currently, Dr. Hess’ clinical interests are in acute and stable coronary artery disease and vascular medicine.  Her research is focused on modification of ischemic cardiac and limb-related risk in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease through medical therapies, including antithrombotic and lipid-lowering strategies.  She is also interested in device-based therapies and optimization of peri-procedural care for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary and peripheral vascular interventions.  In addition, Dr. Hess is exploring novel paradigms for the conduct of clinical trials.  She is a consultant for the Food and Drug Administration Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee and a member of the American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology (ACC), and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI).  She currently serves on the Fellow-in-Training and Early Career Committee of the AHA Council on Peripheral Vascular Disease and is a member of the editorial board of the American Heart Journal.
