Geoff Girnun

Dr. Geoffrey Girnun earned his BS and PhD from the University of Iowa where he studied the connection between essential fatty acids, which we know today are beneficial for maintaining healthy cells, and how they regulate enzymes in cells that protect oxidant stress. He did his post doctoral training at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School where he worked on fundamental questions of cell development, identified novel genes that protect against cancer and developed therapeutic approaches for some of the most common and drug resistant cancers. Geoffrey Girnun established his own lab at the University of Maryland in Baltimore in 2007 and then at Stony Brook University in 2013 until 2019. During those years Dr. Geoffrey Girnun made novel discoveries linking metabolic pathways and cancer. He also developed proof of concept therapeutic approaches targeting these pathways. Dr. Girnun has also been actively engaged as a consultant for early stage investors, hedge funds, small biotech and large pharmaceutical companies. He enjoys reading, the outdoors, jogging and spending quality time with friends and family.
