The Queensland Department of Resources has approved Chatham Rock Phosphate’s (NZP) exploration permit at Gunnerside in North Queensland.

Chatham’s Australian subsidiary, Avenir Makatea Pty. Ltd., trading as Pacific Rare Earths Ltd, made the application.

The area is located in Northern Queensland and features outcropping beds of the seleniferous Toolebuc formation limestones and is a recognized hotspot for highly seleniferous soils.

There is extensive existing geological data to the north and west of EMP28676, mostly from current and past vanadium exploration. The exploration program will commence with soil sampling to identify drill sites.

Selenium minerals are rare; although selenium-rich ores exist, few are mined exclusively for the element. Most selenium is obtained as a byproduct of copper ore processing. However, Selenium is occasionally found in pure form.

Executive Director Colin Randall met with Coreena Robertson to discuss the upcoming exploration program.

Pacific Rare Earths (PRE) is the umbrella company for Chatham’s existing rare earth elements projects at Korella North, Korella Central and Korella South in Queensland, the Chatham Rise project offshore New Zealand, and the selenium project at Tambo.

Chatham Rock Phosphate is a mineral exploration company engaged in the development and exploration of the Chatham Rise rock phosphate deposit offshore in New Zealand. It also holds a mining permit over an area off the coast of New Zealand with seabed deposits of rock phosphate and other valuable minerals.

Chatham Rock Phosphate aims to be the premier supplier of direct-application phosphate to the New Zealand and global agricultural sector.

Chatham Rock Phosphate Ltd. (NZP) opened trading at C$0.15.
