We are proud to share that Sushmita Banerjee, the North American Leader of our Corporate Finance & Strategy Practice, delivered the opening remarks at the JUST Capital 10-Year Anniversary Gala.   JUST Capital is an independent nonprofit that measures and drives improved stakeholder performance across America’s largest companies. Held in New York City, the event brought together business leaders and changemakers committed to advancing ethical leadership and long-term value creation.   In her remarks, Sushmita spoke about the role of character in leadership, imploring that ‘doing the right thing’ is not only a moral decision, but a strategic one. In times of uncertainty, #ethicalleadership brings clarity, builds trust, and drives resilience.   She noted that today’s markets clearly price leadership alongside profits. Poor leadership can cost companies an estimated 7% of annual sales, and ethical missteps now lead to more CEO departures than financial shortfalls.   We’re delighted to see Sushmita represent the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) commitment to #leadershipexcellence, working with #nonprofits to redefine what performance means in today’s economy.

Managing Director and Senior Partner at BCG I North America leader: Corporate Finance & Strategy Practice

A few weeks ago, as a member of the Board of Directors, I was proud to open JUST Capital’s 10-year anniversary gala. I chose to speak about ethical leadership - and why character is the ultimate competitive edge.    Markets evolve, trends shift, yet wherever you look - whether philosophy or fantasy - some truths remain universal. In my remarks, I quoted the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus ["character is destiny"], though I could just as easily have referenced Tolkien ["short cuts make long delays"]. Both reinforce that ethical leadership is less about clever shortcuts and more about character-driven choices, especially when the road ahead isn't clear.   Today's markets clearly price leadership alongside profits. Poor leadership cost companies real money - around 7% of annual sales - and ethical missteps now topple more CEOs than financial shortfalls.   Economic theories often clash - Keynesians encouraged spending, Austrians advised caution, Schumpeter championed disruption. In today's uncertain and unpredictable environment, these complexities only deepen. Yet ethical leadership consistently provides clarity. Acting decisively with conviction and integrity isn’t just morally right; it’s strategically sound.   Because leadership, like that fabled journey through Middle Earth, is a long game.

Think you can’t negotiate for better perks at work? Think again. I recently joined New York’s PIX11 to discuss The Win-Win Workplace and how employees can advocate for better benefits, even in a competitive job market. 💡 The key insight? Companies that invest in their employees don’t just create happier workplaces. They drive higher profits, build stronger teams, and fuel long-term business success. And now, we have the data to back it up. 📊 The Competitive Advantage of the Win-Win Workplace™, a groundbreaking report from The Future Forward Institute, The Burning Glass Institute, and JUST Capital, proves that worker-centered, equity-first strategies lead to real financial gains. This research reinforces what The Win-Win Workplace has always stood for: when businesses put people first, everyone wins. Thank you, PIX11, and Kendis Gibson & Arrianee LeBeau for the insightful discussion! Let’s keep the conversation going on building workplaces that work for everyone. #TheWinWinWorkplace #Leadership #WorkplaceSuccess #CareerGrowth #EmployeeAdvocacy #FutureOfWork

  • We can all agree, “greed is not good”. In the nearly 40 years since Wall Street was released, we’ve seen the results of unchecked greed–millions of jobs shipped overseas, an opioid epidemic, and a subprime mortgage collapse that led to 6 million Americans losing their homes, and a housing crisis that continues to this day. We cannot lose sight of the version of business that inspires America, that drives growth, prosperity, and opportunity for all. The ones not afraid to center values and decency as part of the mission. And you do it by investing in your employees, respecting customers, supporting healthy, vibrant communities, and yes, generating returns for shareholders. The data is clear - just businesses generate greater returns and are more successful than those that are not. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eGjpGYMR #greedisnotgood

JUST Capital was honored to recognize HP Inc. president and CEO Enrique Lores with the inaugural JUST Capital Lifetime Achievement Award at our 10th anniversary gala, “A Decade of JUST Leadership: Celebrating the Best of American Business” hosted at the Nasdaq Marketsite in Times Square. The award was presented by JUST Capital board chair Dan Schulman. The prestigious recognition celebrates Lores’ exceptional #leadership and unwavering commitment to responsible business practices throughout his remarkable journey from HP intern to chief executive. “Great companies don’t exist in isolation. They are part of something bigger – a network of employees, customers, and communities whose success is deeply interconnected,” said Lores, quoting HP co-founder Dave Packard’s philosophy that “the betterment of our society is not a job to be left to a few; it is a responsibility to be shared by all.” Watch the full video of his acceptance speech here: https://lnkd.in/g4Kpihph

🫨 Wow (but also not?): On #genAI deployment - "Less than half (45%) of employees — versus 75% of the C-suite — think their company's AI rollout in the last 12 months has been successful." Basically, AI is not changing work the way leaders think it is 🔑 💡 The possibilities AI represents to support business AND workers' livelihood and opportunity are there... if we do it right (An interesting listen from Nick Hanauer and David Autor on Pitchfork Economics podcast on the topic) ❗TLDR: Putting workers at the center of AI planning, innovation, and deployment is a must-do to maximize the kind of business value that's possible from workers (*ahem* your most valuable asset) and the genAI tools intended to turbocharge both 🚀

Last week, members of JUSTGen had the incredible opportunity to join JUST Capital at Nasdaq to ring the bell and celebrate 10 years of advancing a more just economy. At a time of rapid political, social, economic, and environmental shifts, the discussions felt more urgent than ever. The evening private dinner event brought together some of the most influential voices in corporate leadership, including Paul Tudor Jones, Dan Schulman, Jay Clayton, Pat Russo, Roosevelt Giles, Martin Whittaker, and Enrique Lores, for thought-provoking conversations on the future of business and leadership. Key takeaways from the night: 📌 Leadership isn’t just about setting a vision—it’s about execution and building trust through action. 📌 The best businesses recognize that long-term success depends on investing in workers, sustainability, and community well-being. 📌 Companies are navigating one of the most disruptive economic periods in history, balancing AI, geopolitical uncertainty, and shifting public expectations. 📌 Ethical leadership is more important than ever, with data showing that trust and accountability are critical to public confidence in business. A huge congratulations to Enrique Lores, CEO of HP, on receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, and to the companies recognized in this year’s JUST 100 for setting the standard for responsible leadership. We also want to thank Dottie & Dean Serure for their generosity that enabled JUSTGen to join this amazing event. 💡 Passionate about shaping the future of business? JUSTGen is the community for you.
