LOOKING FOR A CAREER IN HVAC?
The City of Charlotte’s RENEW Grant in partnership with Goodwill’s Construction Program is offering an incredible, FREE opportunity for eligible, motivated students – the Renewable Energy and Efficiency Workforce (RENEW) Training Program.
The RENEW program is a paid training course – which means you are able to earn money as you gain the skills and certifications you need to launch your construction and trade career! This course will provide paid training in the Construction, HVAC and Electrical trades. You will learn safety precautions and awareness, and will receive an introduction to construction drawings, basic rigging, material handling and basic (construction) math used on a job site. Additionally, the program will teach you basic electrical safety and HVAC systems. Other topics include usage of installation tools and techniques, meters and gauges, brazing and soldering, heating technologies, basic copper and plastic piping practices, basic carbon steel piping practices, air distribution systems, understanding symbols and basic schematics, planning and layout, as well as installation of electrical distribution equipment.
The training package includes 4 industry-recognized certifications (OSHA-10 Certification, NCCER HVAC Level 1 Certification, EPA-608 Certification and NCCER CORE Certification) as well as 6 weeks of work-based learning – totaling 28 weeks of paid training. The course is set to begin May 31.
Candidates must have an interest in starting a career in the HVAC industry. You will receive free career coaching and access to our strategic partnerships for job placement. The national salary average in HVAC starts around $49,000/year plus incentives.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a resident of the City of Charlotte
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Be eligible to work in the United States by the time of program completion
- Ability to work in diverse conditions including but not limited to exposure to noisy operating equipment, exposure to extreme weather conditions, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock (high voltage).
- Meet the physical requirements of the training program and position; requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling. Requires regularly lifting and or moving up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and or move up to 40 lbs. and occasionally lift and or move more than 40 lbs.
- Availability and ability to participate in 6 week work-based learning to apply skills learned with industry experts. (usually during the hours of 8am – 6pm)
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations
- Additionally, participants must complete an intake interview and be evaluated on the ability to meet entry-level employment requirements outlined by potential employers. Goodwill will recommend a final slate of participants to the City of Charlotte for review.
