Bottle Shock

VINTAGE CINEMA

"Four Stars," says Rex Reed. "Hugely Entertaining!" says Rolling Stone. "Rocky for wine aficionados!" raves Hollywood Reporter and other critics about Bottle Shock, the triumphant little indie about the birth of Napa's wine industry. The film has managed to hold its own amid studio blockbusters - proving that moviegoers love an underdog. The film is set in 1976 and tells the tale of a small American winery that bested the exalted french wines of the time in a blind tasting that has come to be known as "Judgment of Paris," the seminal event that put california wines on the map for good. "Bottle Shock" stars Bill Pullman as California winemaker Jim Barrett and Alan Rickman as Steven Spurrier, the Brit living in Paris who staged the event. Rex Reed proclaims, "Bottle Shock guarantees to revive everyone's flagging faith in American pride at home and abroad-something in these sorry, perilous times we're desperately short of."

  Billionaires Blasting Off

Space Adventures, which is selling around-the-moon jaunts for $100 million, is but one of several privately funded outfits in the space race.

Commercial space flight will take another giant leap forward on Monday, March 29th with Space Adventures’ announcement of the next private citizen astronaut in New York City.

The private sector astronaut’s identity will be revealed at a press conference by Eric Anderson, President and CEO of Space Adventures, along with Norman Thagard, retired NASA astronaut.

Here’s what we can reveal; the next space tourist is an American entrepreneur, who holds a PhD in the sciences. He or she hopes to be able to conduct scientific research onboard the ISS and wants to inspire young people to study science and technology.

S/he is to begin cosmonaut training next month at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia (for approximately six months) and will go on a mission to the International Space Station on a Soyuz-TMA spacecraft launched from the historic Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

In addition to tourism, the mission will provide much-needed supplies to the International Space Station. The mission continues Space Adventures record of opening the space frontier to private citizens.
