Marina Bay Sands Raises More Than $2.8 Million at the 2023 Sands for Singapore Charity Festival

Marina Bay Sands hosted the 2023 Sands for Singapore Charity Festival August 4-6, raising more than $2.8 million for local nonprofits and marking cumulative fund-raising of nearly $26 million over the event’s nine-year history.

The festival supported a number of Singapore community organizations spanning programs for individuals with special needs, the arts community and hardship relief initiatives. Beneficiaries included social service agency APSN, which serves individuals with intellectual disabilities; Image Mission, which empowers women to achieve economic independence; the Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore); Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped, SPD, which serves Singapore residents living with disabilities; We Care Community Services, an addiction recovery center; and Community Chest, which raises money for more than 100 social service agencies as the fundraising arm of the National Council of Social Service in Singapore.

Sands Cares Accelerator member Art Outreach, which works to increase art appreciation and support for local artists in Singapore, also is a beneficiary and showcased Heartwork: A Community Weaving Studio, where attendees could weave vibrant tapestries from upcycled linens, uniforms and fabrics sourced from Marina Bay Sands using a traditional floor loom. Tapestry sales benefited Art Outreach programs.

Volunteerism was again a central component of the 2023 Sands for Singapore Charity Festival, with the event capping three weeks of Team Member service contributions that included painting temporary homes for families in need, packing and delivering National Day goodie bags to seniors in nursing homes, and hosting families for learning tours and fun experiences at the resort. Team Members also accompanied senior residents from Care Corner Singapore and students from Care Singapore during the Festival to enjoy entertainment, food and other activities. Volunteer contributions totaled more than 4,700 hours between July 18 and August 6.

For the second year, the event featured the Giving Marketplace, which enabled visitors to shop for a cause with sales benefiting nonprofit organizations and social enterprises. This year’s marketplace featured 16 organizations that offered products including items hand-made by beneficiaries and specially designed commemorations for Singapore’s National Day on August 9.

Other highlights of the 2023 Sands for Singapore Charity Festival included performances from the APSN Chaoyang School Choir and APSN Chaoyang School Ensemble, followed by a Sands Cares-themed edition of Spectra, the resort’s spectacular light and water show.

During the festival, Marina Bay Sands again co-hosted the Community Chest Heartstrings Walk and Vertical Marathon, in which participants ascended 57 stories up to the Sands SkyPark. The annual walk attracted more than 5,000 participants to support Community Chest.

“The Sands for Singapore Charity Festival stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to our community,” said Paul Town, chief operating officer of Marina Bay Sands.  “This annual event serves as a beacon of hope, uniting us in a shared mission to make a positive impact for people in need. This is why we engage Team Members and the general public to do good for our community. We are profoundly grateful for the unwavering support from the public and our partners, as we unite in our commitment to uplift lives in Singapore.”
