On January 6, 2019, a video posted on Fars News (Iran) depicted an Iranian man shooting U.S. President Donald Trump during a speech about the killing of Qasem Soleimani. The video opens with a text in English that reads: “Hey U.S., if you begin the war, we will end the war.” The assassin, who is shown hiding behind a vent grate, extracts a rifle from a briefcase and looks at a picture of Qasem Soleimani before shooting President Trump multiple times. The video shows Trump’s bodyguards reacting to the shooting and trying to protect him, as well as the chaos that ensues in the audience. The man is also shown wearing a ring similar to the ring that was worn by Soleimani. A caption reads: “In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.”
