In 2018 we met the creator of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, the founding non-profit for Community First! Village, Alan Graham & his COO Kevin Shepherd.

They took us on a strolling tour through a dream made into a reality.

We were so captured by what they, Alan, his team & the residents, are creating that we joined forces wholeheartedly with them.

The residents are working in a functioning community that includes a large gardening program, auto shop, stores, food trucks, art creation, hair salon, church, steel forging, glass blowing, hotel & more!   They, the residents, work the all shops.  They are building their own businesses!

The vision of empowering & changing the lives of so many at the same time is awe inspiring still!  We are proud to be a small part assisting in this amazing show of love & humanity gone right.

How We Started

ROOFING AUSTIN WEIRD

One night Tim & Christine were discussing work and some of the unfortunate things we run into in this business.  This evening it was an elderly lady who had hired a roofing company to re-roof her home through an insurance claim.  The company came out and gave her a roof and she gave them her money.  Two years later the insurance company came out to inspect the work.  They found the work to be unacceptable and they tell her to get it repaired so they can reinstate her policy which they cancelled.  Now she was terrified because her reverse mortgage company had been informed that her insurance was cancelled and she had to have insurance as part of her reverse mortgage contract! What insurance company was going to cover her with this roof?  She called the roofing company that had done her roof but they didn't answer, they were long gone.  So, she called Tim Bowen with Austin Roofing And Construction. He went out there and fixed her roof for as little as he could out of her pocket and got her In touch with a good Insurance agent who took care of her and got the reverse mortgage people happy again.   Happy story?  Not really.  Tim was saddened by how such a nice lady was lied to, stolen from and put into such a bad position through no doing of her own.  He said "I just wish I could give her a whole new roof for free, because that is what she really paid for and needs."

" Austin Roofing & Construction came to my rescue when I really needed it due to my husband's illness.  When our roof started to leaking, I had no idea how I would have it repaired, if it could be repaired.  It was just another major problem added on to the ones I already had.  When Tim & Christine became aware of my situation they immediately stepped in.

They came out, didn't repair it but put a Complete New Roof on, No Charge. My husband Henry, a 30 year Navy Retired Vietnam Veteran, & I will never be able to thank Tim & Christine enough.  They are two of the nicest, most caring  people you would ever hope to meet. Just knowing them has enriched our lives, besides all they've done.

Thank you Tim & Christine.  GOD Bless you both & your family.  GOD Bless America. "

Austin Roofing and Construction donated a roof to a baseball facility in Garrison Park in November.

By Luz Moreno-Lozano

3:26 pm Jan. 22, 2018

A Garrison Park baseball facility is sporting a new rooftop thanks to a Austin Roofing and Construction donation made in November.

In 2016, spouses and co-partners Tim and Christine Bowen of Austin Roofing Company implemented Austin Gives, a program through the Austin Chamber of Commerce where businesses donate 1 percent of their total gross income back to the city of Austin. As a result, the company donates at least two roofs a year to residents in the greater Austin area who might not otherwise be able to afford a new roof but are in dire need.

The goal behind implementing the Austin Gives program, Bowen said, was to bring honest roofing work to families in Central Texas. She said Texas does not require licensing for roofing contractors, which opens the community up to scams.

“I hear so many roofing horror stories,” Bowen said. “We wanted to create a program that could fix this and instead it turned into opening up an opportunity for community members who really need a new roof.”

The company was contacted by little league team South Austin Optimist to place a new roof on the building located right next to the baseball field at Garrison Park. League president Ric Castaneda was extremely grateful for the support.

“It is heartwarming to realize that there are people such as your company that is willing to help others,” Castaneda said in a testimony to the company. “To that we say, thank you, Garrison Park, for being here in South Austin with barbecue pits and an awesome pool.”

The Garrison Park facility roof was the only donation made by Austin Gives in 2017, Bowen said, so the pair is striving to donate three roofs in 2018.
