🛡️ Protecting Inclusion: Why Equity Matters More Than Ever Hello everyone, In a troubling move this week, SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) announced they are rebranding their initiatives from DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) to just D&I, dropping the crucial component of Equity. What is Equity? Equity ensures everyone has what they need to achieve personal and organizational success. Without it, true inclusion is impossible. For many corporate leaders, disconnecting from broader societal issues is seen as a survival mechanism. However, the decision to abandon basic programs supporting historically underrepresented people is deeply concerning. A Timeline of Attacks on Equity and Inclusion: -Black Lives Matter Protests: Initial attacks began here. -Critical Race Theory (CRT): Legal theory became a target. -Anti-Trans Movement: Continued with attacks on Trans rights. -AP College Credit Board: Efforts to exclude Black History from being taught. -Corporate DEI Initiatives: The latest target in this ongoing struggle. As SHRM takes this step, it's important to stay informed and equipped. This Garden Isn’t Finished Without You: RHS Flower Show Tatton Park from 17 to 21 July 2024 Let’s face it, no garden is ever really finished. How can it be when everything in it just keeps growing and changing? But, we’ve deliberately created space for the visitors to RHS Flower Show Tatton Park to add a flower to the garden – a flower that represents who they are. There’s space for everyone, and the garden isn’t finished without each contribution. Take a moment to reflect: how are you creating inclusive spaces in your church communities? Are there creative ways you could show your commitment to inclusion and diversity?

At Fortrea, we're committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. We kicked off Pride celebrations with a powerful discussion on intersectionality within the LGBTQIA+ community. Hosted by our PRIDE, PULSE, and WEN Global Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), the forum explored the often-uncomfortable topic of what it means to be both Black and LGBTQIA+. By having open and honest conversations about these experiences, we aim to: • Build understanding: We believe fostering empathy across identities strengthens our community. • Create a safer platform: When we discuss challenging topics, we can create a more inclusive space for all. • Develop strong allyship: True allyship requires understanding the unique experiences of others. We're grateful to our guest speaker, Paige J. Gardner, PhD, Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Success, College of Education at Seattle University, along with the employees who shared their lived experiences. Within Inclusion on the Slope, our purpose is to assist individuals and organizations in fostering an inclusive snowsports and outdoor community. The vision is Everyone on Snow! Thus, individuals and organizations develop the habit of inclusivity. Here are some daily habits to consider. --- CONNECT WITH A STRANGER: Connecting with a stranger reminds us that inclusion opportunities happen daily. --- SHARE YOUR INCLUSIVE JOURNEY: We begin practicing discussing our inclusive experiences with others and the value they bring. --- SWITCH UP A ROUTINE: To expand beyond the status quo, we interrupt our habits to make space for connections. Inclusion invites us to be ever-evolving. Inclusion becomes another adventure that we welcome. It's why I enjoy it so much! This picture is me; after returning from the Pride Parade in Stockholm, where I joined #teamEricsson. This marks my third year participating—twice in Stockholm and once in Dallas (USA) —and every experience has reinforced my commitment to promoting equality and inclusion. ❓ 💡 But beyond the parades and events, the real question is: Are we ready to champion equality in our everyday actions? Supporting equality isn't just about showing up for special dates, months, or events. It’s about the intentional choices we make when no one is watching: - Diversity in Meetings: Are we ensuring a balanced representation when preparing for discussions? - Speaking Up: Do we use our voice to challenge inequality whenever we encounter it? - Leadership Accountability: Are we truly committed to providing equal career opportunities to everyone? I don't want to sound boring or provocative! These are calls to action. For those of us in leadership, it's especially crucial to reflect on how we can foster high-performing teams by promoting diversity, inclusion, and equality—not just in words but through consistent, everyday actions.
