DUXBURY, MA (March 3, 2020)TOP the organic project® (TOP), the women-owned social impact company on a mission to make sustainable, organic period products accessible for everyone, has announced the release of their eco-friendly, plant-based applicator tampon.

Made from sugarcane, TOP’s plant-based applicators tampons are a high-performing alternative to the traditional plastic-based tampons that dominate the market today. The benefits of their plant-based plastic applicator include a reduction in the use of fossil fuel resources, faster decomposition, and an overall decrease in toxins—eliminating bisphenol A altogether, a hormone disruptor with documented health risks for women and girls.

Every year, over 20 billion period products end up in landfills in the United States. Largely composed of plastic materials and by-products, period product waste has a measurably negative impact on the environment, derailing global sustainability efforts as each plastic tampon and pad takes thousands of years to decompose.

In honor of TOP’s brand commitment to reducing their environmental impact, their innovative design aims to disrupt the feminine hygiene market by eliminating traditional plastics that are found in 90% of period products today, while upholding consumer product expectations of comfort and ease.

“With comfort, performance, and sustainability as the cornerstones of our design, we are excited to introduce TOP’s plant-based applicator tampons,” stated Denielle Finkelstein, Co-Founder & President of TOP the organic project. “It was extremely important for us to identify an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastic period products, reflecting our mission to reduce our environmental footprint. As moms, we are building this business for our daughters and future generations. We want our products to be healthy and safer alternatives, to help reduce the exposure of hormone disrupting chemicals for all women. Our goal is to inspire advocacy for social impact while driving innovation in a category that has been largely stagnant until now.”

TOP surveyed a private beta group of more than 200 women (ages 13-50 residing in the U.S.) who tested their new plant-based applicator tampon, and 93% reported, “I feel great about my impact on the environment using TOP the organic project period products.”

With the bioplastics market predicted to skyrocket from $6B to $19B+ by 2026, TOP is proud to pioneer the development and distribution of their organic, plant-based applicator tampons, available for purchase today via their website, Amazon.com and coming soon to retailers nationwide.
