Science Research Program

In our 12-week program, you will work 1-on-1 with an AdmissionSight Research Scientist to conduct cutting edge research and compete in highly prestigious science research competitions such as the Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS). Our research program is extremely rigorous and challenging, leveraging machine learning learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, college level math, computer science, and/or econometrics to tackle a specific problem domain.

A background in computer science is helpful, but not necessarily required as long as there is a willingness to learn. As of this date, we’re proud to have a 100% track record of helping students gain placement in a science research competition and/or journal. Our program is open to both STEM and humanities students.

Many of our students have competed in the Regeneron Science Talent Search and Intel Science and Engineering Fair and won national recognition for their efforts, including $25,000 scholarships. In past years, our students have made oral presentations and received semifinalist and regional finalist standing in the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.

Our Science Research Program is specifically geared toward helping students compete in science research competitions, as well as get published in high school research journals. These prestigious awards and recognition will increase a student’s odd of admission for competitive universities and set them up for success.

Our students have placed in the following competitions and science research journals:

  • Synopsis Science Fair and other local and regional science fairs
  • Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) local/state competitions
  • Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) semifinalists and regional finalists in Oral Presentation and/or Research Poster
  • Columba Junior Science Journal Publication
  • IEEE university level publication
  • Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS) Semifinalist, Top 50 and $25K scholarship
  • Davidson Fellows $25K scholarship
  • Journal of Emerging Investigators publication
  • National High School Journal of Science publication
  • arXiv university level publication (affiliated with Cornell)

Our track record of placing students in some of the nation’s most prestigious science research competitions significantly increases their odds for admission to the most competitive universities. Our students find that our research program is both challenging and rewarding, and goes well beyond the typical high school curriculum. We’re proud to have a 100% track record of helping students gain recognition in a science research competition and/or journal.

Our Science Research Scientists

Adi, Research Scientist and Senior Consultant

PhD in Electrical Engineering, Stanford University

Adi is a Research Scientist and Senior Consultant at AdmissionSight and has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, where he built a portable and affordable digital health diagnostics device that utilized magnetic-sensing technology to rapidly detect viral biomarkers in humans with just several droplets of blood. His invention won the Distinguished Prize Award in an international digital health competition held by the prestigious XPRIZE foundation. He received his BSc and MSc both in Electrical Engineering from California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where he focused on semiconductor device research. While at Caltech, he volunteered in the admission office as an admission application reviewer for undergraduate admissions.

George, Research Scientist and Private Tutor

MSE in Computer Science, University of Pennsylvania

George is a Research Scientist and SAT, AP and AMC10/12 Private Tutor at AdmissionSight and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an MSE in Computer and Information Science, as well as New York University with a BA in Math and Computer Science. While at UPenn, he worked as a research assistant on a Natural Language Processing (NLP) project, as part of which he enhanced state-of-the-art NLP algorithms to help robots understand human commands. This project resulted in a paper that was published in the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) conference. George has a strong background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and mathematics.

Ethan, Research Scientist

BS, UCLA

Ethan is a Research Scientist at AdmissionSight and graduated with a BS in Neuroscience and a minor in Entrepreneurship from UCLA. There, he led a non-profit that focused on mentoring science to underserved students and inspired them to address fascinating real-world world questions through their science experiments, for which he won the Charles E Young Humanitarian Award. After UCLA, he went on to be a fellow in machine learning at Google where he worked on computer vision and natural language processing models using TensorFlow, Keras, OpenCV, and NLTK and optimized such models across cloud GPU’s. Ethan has deep experience in machine learning, big data, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and natural language processing.

David, Research Scientist

PhD in Physics, UC Davis

David is a Research Scientist at AdmissionSight and has a PhD in Physics from the University of California – Davis, where his research focused on utilizing a tsunami wave simulator and machine learning techniques to develop novel early warning systems. David was heavily involved in a particle physics research group at Fermilab, America’s national accelerator laboratory. He was funded to work there through a scholarship recognizing his self-driven high school science projects, including a fusion-based project presented at the Regional Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (JSHS). David has deep experience in physics, machine learning, mathematics, and statistics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our research program is extremely rigorous and goes well beyond the typical high school curriculum, covering topics such as  machine learning, deep learning, calculus, linear algebra, statistics, probability, and econometrics. These topics are quite advanced for high school students and we will teach and train our students to be build a foundation in these technical methods to conduct the research.

As of this date, we have not had a single student who has not received placement in a science research journal and/or science fair competition. The reason is the level of rigor of our research program far exceeds the rigor of the research papers getting published and can certainly compete with many of the top projects in a science research competition, going well beyond the typical high school curriculum.  However, placement is not guaranteed and past results may not be indicative of future performance.

Our program lasts for 12 weeks and the student will work individually with our Research Scientist to brainstorm and come up with a topic, formulate a hypothesis and problem statement, learn advanced math, statistics, and computer science to build the tools to conduct cutting edge research, approach the problem with a rigorous methodology, and discuss the results and conclusion in a capstone research paper. This research paper will then be used to submit to different science fair competitions and research journals.

Our research scientist will work together with the student to formulate a topic depending on the student’s area of academic passion and interest. The process is also exploratory (and not necessarily black and white) and we will guide the student through how to come up with an interesting research topic that will perform well in competitions.

Our research program is entirely 1-on-1. The benefit of this approach is that the student will own the research, which can be used to submit to science research competitions and published in research journals. When the research is done in a group setting like other summer programs where they have multiple students on a single project, you will not be able to use the research to compete in science competitions since there can only be one (or maximum 2) entrants per research project.

Our research program is specifically geared toward helping students compete in the Intel Science and Engineering Fair, Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, and the Regeneron Science Talent Search, which are some of the most prestigious science research programs in the country. Our research program is orders of magnitude more rigorous than other summer programs and research programs out there. Our students apply advanced computational methods to tackle a specific problem domain, which provides the students the best odds of getting regional or national recognition in a science research competition or publication in a research journal.
