🍏 In London, 2.3 million tonnes of food is wasted from across the food supply chain every year. Reducing this waste by 50% and shifting towards more healthy and sustainable diets could achieve a 31% reduction in annual food-related consumption based emissions. We’re working with councils in London to improve the environmental impacts of the food they serve and reduce the amount wasted through London's Food Purchasing Commitment. 👉 Find out more in this year’s #GoodFoodLocal London report by Sustain: The alliance for better food and farming and find out which councils are taking action on climate: https://lnkd.in/eZZYzuA2 #circulareconomy #zerowasteeconomy #foodwaste #circularfood #foodwastereduction

🍏 Action on food waste presents a huge opportunity to help tackle many of today’s biggest health, economic, social and environmental challenges. In London, there's an already sizable and diverse community of innovators all working to support the transition to a circular food system - reducing the amount of food wasted and cutting emissions. As part of our UK-SPF funded grant scheme, we supported ten pioneering circular food businesses to scale up their operations and impact, while advancing London’s circular food system. 👉 Read the case study here: https://zurl.co/INAj #foodwasteactionweek #circulareconomy #food #zerowasteeconomy #foodwaste #ukspf | Howard Dawber

📣 It's #FoodWasteActionWeek! And we're busy helping London's residents, businesses and local authorities reduce food waste - here's a taster of what we're up to 👇 🍏 Our citizen-facing campaigns, #EatLikeaLondoner and #LondonRecycles are sharing food waste content - from buying loose, to waste-busting recipes, these tips help Londoners save money and make the most of their food shop. 📈 Our business support team continue to accelerate London's food business community on their circular journeys. Recent grants for high street food businesses helped a number of businesses to purchase food waste tracking bins to monitor their in-business waste and use the data to support food waste reduction plans, to name an example. ☕️ We're working with Islington Council on a six-month circular food community project. In February we opened a new community café and pantry that uses local surplus food to offer pay-what-you-feel lunches and home cooking workshops for residents. Other project activities include providing business food waste workshops, school canteen training, resident cooking and food growing workshops, and more. 🤝 In partnership with London Councils and Sustain: The alliance for better food and farming, we've developed a food purchasing commitment that empowers local authorities to improve the environmental impacts of the food they serve and reduce the amount wasted, whilst ensuring value for money for their contracts. 🎉 Last night we co-hosted an event with Sustainable Fashion Meet-up Community bringing together London's circular fashion innovators to celebrate the closing of our ReWear grant programme and its impact in growing London's circular fashion ecosystem. 👚 Last November we awarded grants to 10 London-based circular start-ups and early-stage businesses that are pioneering a repair, resale and/or rental solution for textiles that helps reduce the need for making new clothes. ♻️ Throughout the programme, our business support team were on hand to help grow and expand the businesses and amplify their impact as circular innovators. Since November 2024, our grantees have: ♻️ Extended the life of 3,500+ items of clothing 💼 Reported an increased visibility of their business with 200+ new customers/bookings 🤝 Formed 22 new business partnerships 👔 Created and/or safeguarded more than 10 jobs All that in just 4 months! It was brilliant to all convene last night to hear about the impact the grantees have had, and connect with wider members of London's circular fashion community. We'd like to thank our grantees for joining us for the event and sharing their successes with us: The Seam, Vamp Sneaker Cleaning, SOJO, Verte, Give Your Best, Tern Eco, Known Source, Continue , KIRAA and Bundlee. These grants were made possible thanks to funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and supported by the Mayor of London. #circulareconomy #circularfashion #fashion #textiles #reuse #repair #resale #rent #rewear #UKSPF | Howard Dawber
