“The work of Sea Forest to reduce emissions in livestock with very limited behavioural change is really important because it means that a farmer, they’re not having to completely change practice, or stop farming cattle altogether in the face of climate change, which would be even more disruptive.” Thanks to the The Nightly and Simone Grogan for the profile. Great update on where Sea Forest's at today, where we're headed, and the important work that remains.

About us
Sea Forest Limited is a science-based environmental technology company harnessing the power of Australian seaweed Asparagopsis, and replicating its bioactives, to drive sustainable long-term solutions to the challenges of climate change and global food security. The Sea Forest team is dedicated to fighting climate change by being the first in the world to cultivate Asparagopsis at a commercial scale and producing SeaFeed™ livestock supplement. Our scientists have now replicated the bioactives found naturally in this seaweed. Composed of industry’s best scientists, the Sea Forest team is producing the highest methane abating supplement in the world by using the most effective production facilities and methodologies. Sea Forest is now producing more SeaFeed™ than ever, and as our farming, manufacturing and production operations continue to grow, so too will our positive impact on the planet. Sea Forest’s SeaFeed™ supplement is in commercial use with primary producers. The company is also collaborating with major consumer brands to bring products to market and educate consumers. The company’s solution is backed by more than 30 peer reviewed studies and is supported by a network of research partnerships with leading universities. Sea Forest is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact on sustainability. Through the nonprofit Sea Forest Foundation, we work with the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania to restore Tasmania’s endangered native giant kelp forests.

No one needs another excuse to drink in these uncertain times, but now you can help us restore the giant kelp forests of Tassie just by sipping on Minimum Wines . While some partnerships take months to finesse, this one came about in a single cold email from the ocean-loving folk behind the Victorian vineyard, that said (in part), "We're now giving 1% of our revenue to ocean health and would love to bring you on as one of the organisations we give to." Cheers to Mat Bate and the entire Minimum Wines team, whose first donation is already helping our foundation replant Tasmania's giant kelp forests, 95% of which have been lost over the last two decades. You can find their delicious, wild fermented wines in good bottle shops all over the country or by ordering direct at minimumwines.com

Nature-first goals are often first to get put on the back burner during times of global uncertainty, which is why it's encouraging to see Mars continue to invest in farmers and decarbonising the dairy industry. We look forward to working with Fonterra on this exciting program...
🐮We’re making even more moo’ves in dairy. Today, in collaboration with our longtime dairy supplier Fonterra, we're launching our Farmer Forward Program. Backed by an expected investment of $27m over the next five-years, this initiative aims to empower dairy farmers to embrace sustainable dairy practices through cash incentives and funding for tools and technology. The program is projected to cut our greenhouse gas emissions from dairy by 150,000+ metric tons by 2030 (against a 2015 baseline). That’s equivalent to removing more than 380 million miles from the road! Part of Moo’ving Dairy Forward, our sustainable dairy plan, the Farmer Forward Program gets us one step closer to our commitment to slash emissions by 50% by 2030 (against a 2015 baseline) and achieve Net Zero by 2050. Learn more about the new program and how it ladders up to our overarching sustainability goals here: https://lnkd.in/ebNfEbvv #ProudlyMars #TomorrowStartsToday

Remember the methane-busting lick block we launched last year that won two Good Design Australia Awards? Well, Kleen Grow* is now available to order through your local ag-supply store. This next generation block from the master’s at Olsson's Blocks is a tasty, weather-resistant supplement that reduces methane emissions in grazing livestock, thanks to the inclusion of our SeaFeed, while providing a variety of nutritional benefits. Science shows up to 40% reduction in methane with this block, while the saved feed energy has led to measurable weight gain improvements. Just place one block per 20 head of cattle or 40 head of sheep for optimal results. We're really proud of Kleen Grow, because it offers a pioneering solution that benefits both farmers and the planet. Order some today and see for yourself. ---------------------------------------- *Previously known as Clean Grow

Exciting news for Australian farmers. The Clean Energy Finance Corporation has just announced $300M in discounted green loans through NAB to help farmers adopt climate solutions, including methane-reducing feed additives like our SeaFeed. This is a game-changer for producers looking to reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining profitability. Thrilled to see this support for sustainable agriculture and our products being recognised as a key solution for reducing livestock emissions. (They also provide additional benefits for farmers, but that's another post).

Whether it's the paddocks of Tasmania, or the farms of Hokkaido, the challenge of livestock methane emissions is exactly the same. Which is why our seaweed-based solution is designed to work anywhere in the world. This was reinforced recently, when our Head of R&D, Dr. Masayuki Tatsumi, engaged with global innovators and industry leaders at Tokyo's INNOVATION LEADERS SUMMIT (ILS) where the response from a diverse range of sectors was overwhelmingly positive. Not a huge surprise, with Japan having set ambitious targets, aiming to be net zero by 2050. "Japan's greenhouse gas emissions from livestock are relatively small, but this doesn't mean they can be ignored," explains Dr. Tatsumi. "The country has approximately 4 million cattle but imports about twice the amount of meat and dairy products it produces domestically." The interconnected nature of the global food system is precisely why Sea Forest isn't solely focussed on reducing emissions in our own backyard. We need to contribute to the transformation of the global livestock industry, from Tamworth to Texas, which is something Dr. Tatsumi believes is starting to happen. "In Japan, businesses are subject to mandatory emissions reporting and the public communication of emissions reduction roadmaps. So, there's an encouraging level of corporate awareness and concern for the environment," he said. "Observing this shift from purely profit-driven priorities to environmental considerations gave me confidence the world is moving in the right direction." Together with partners around the globe, we're working to speed things up. ( 📸 Dr. Tatsumi on stage at ILS sharing Sea Forest's solutions)

When the Australian Design Council (ADC) called and said they wanted Sea Forest to be a case study in how design can transform businesses, it started a good conversation about what 'design' means, which the ADC website does a nice job of answering: "Design is an iterative process for creative problem solving. It is the activity of conceiving and developing a plan for a new or significantly improved product, service or system that will meet a user’s needs. It considers economic, environmental and social impact." Embedding design-led thinking into Sea Forest's foundations has helped us become a global leader in climate solutions. We hope this video by the ADC and RØDE Microphones inspires more businesses to embrace it as a core part of their strategy.

Climate chat is important, but it's nice to take a moment sometimes and draw inspiration from people in different fields. So, we’re kicking off 'Five to Thrive', where we ask business gurus and captains of industry to share the kind of wisdom you can apply to work, life, or your next binge on Netflix. Our first sage is Matt Moran AM, renowned chef, restaurateur, farmer, and pioneer of the paddock-to-plate movement in Australia. Here's his answers to savour: A lesson worth remembering... Look left and right before you cross the road. It’s simple, but it's stuck with me. It’s not just about crossing the street. It’s a reminder to pause and make sure you’re heading in the right direction, whether it’s in life, business, or the kitchen. A book worth reading... Kitchen Confidential by my dear friend Tony Bourdain. The book strips away the glamour and exposes the truth in the kitchen. He was very vocal about how tough it is. It’s not this glamourous thing. A quote worth sharing... "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life." I always tell people, if you’re getting into hospitality you’ve got to love it, because it’s bloody hard work. I’m lucky I have a passion for it. Sure, I have the odd bad day, but I can honestly say I love what I do. A film worth watching... The Godfather. Possibly the best movie ever. And they just made a series called The Offer, which is about the making of it, which is also great. Something worth avoiding... Arguments. They're a waste of time. Focus on what matters and save your energy for what actually makes a difference. Life is too short. -------------- What’s a lesson, book, movie, or quote you swear by? Drop it in the comments below. #FiveToThrive #WisdomBreak #Inspiration
