We’re thrilled to share the new Biodiversity Sector Map, developed by Conservation International in partnership with the Nature Tech Collective . Together, we’ve mapped over 600 organizations across the nature tech landscape, helping conservation practitioners, policymakers, and investors navigate tools to protect biodiversity at scale. By combining our expertise in biodiversity protection with Nature Tech Collective’s deep knowledge of emerging technologies, our aim is to identify and help bridge critical gaps in nature tech adoption. This map sheds light on critical gaps and opportunities, providing a clear path for driving meaningful change and accelerating the scale of conservation efforts. Conservation International is grateful for the generous support of The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation in making this map possible. #NatureTech #Biodiversity #Conservation #Innovation #NatureFinance
🚀 🌱Now live: The Nature Tech Biodiversity Sector Map! We’re harnessing the energy of #NatureTechWeek to unveil our inaugural nature tech sector map for biodiversity, developed with Conservation International. This visual guide maps 600+ organizations driving biodiversity innovation worldwide, bringing greater clarity, collaboration & impact to the sector. Download the sector map here >>> https://lnkd.in/eRicadxh What we found: 🔍 Tech gaps: 200+ orgs focus on monitoring, but data integration & interpretation lag - limiting real-world impact. 🧬🛰️ Despite impressive advancements in technologies like eDNA, bioacoustics, and remote sensing, practitioners face barriers to harnessing them fully, such as data interpretation, cost and implementation 🌍 Biodiversity records are unevenly distributed across species (taxonomic bias) and locations (geographic bias), creating blind spots in conservation decision-making 🎯 Target-setting challenges: A lack of standardized guidance and diverse stakeholder needs make it harder for organizations to translate biodiversity data into actionable insights for different groups. 🤝 Democratization more a promise than reality? AI, camera traps & citizen science remain costly & complex. How do we bridge these gaps? Let’s discuss! #BiodiversityTech #NatureData #ConservationInnovation cc Gilad Goren Zoey Werbin Amalia Helen Paula Palermo Teal Brown Zimring Ali Swanson Erika Korosi Sophia Fillion Chad Gallinat Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Trond Larsen Kavya Pradhan Stephanie Wear

🌊 Exciting News from the International Blue Carbon Institute. 🌊 We’re thrilled to announce that Attish Kanhai, a marine researcher from the Institute of Marine Affairs in Trinidad and Tobago, has been selected as the inaugural IBCI Fellow. 🎉 Attish currently researches seagrass rehabilitation in his native Trinidad and Tobago. His project as an IBCI Fellow will focus on estimating the natural capital of seagrass ecosystems in Trinidad and Tobago, with a particular emphasis on blue carbon sequestration and storage potential that can be communicated to policymakers and other key stakeholders to encourage greater conservation and restoration action. Blue carbon ecosystems – including mangroves, seagrasses, kelp, and salt marshes – are among the most carbon-rich ecosystems on Earth and vital to coastal resilience and livelihoods. Yet they face significant threats from degradation and loss. This announcement comes as we gather in Kingston, Jamaica for a regional workshop, “Coastal Futures: Advancing Blue Carbon Policy, Finance, and Science in the Caribbean,” over 18–20 March 2025. The workshop brought together experts, policymakers, and practitioners to unlock the potential of blue carbon ecosystems in the Caribbean – like the ones Attish is working to protect – through innovative policy, science, and financing strategies. The workshop was convened by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) in collaboration with Conservation International, the International Blue Carbon Institute, the UN Ocean Decade Programme for Blue Carbon (GO-BC), with funding support from the United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), as well as Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada (GAC). This Fellowship is part of IBCI’s ongoing mission to support blue carbon innovation, capacity building, and global collaboration for the protection of these critical ecosystems. Congratulations, Attish. 👏 We can’t wait to see the impact of your work. 📩 Learn more about the Fellowship Program: https://lnkd.in/eehdC9tW 📩 Learn more about the work of IBCI: https://lnkd.in/gpxpYsUF 🌿🌎 #BlueCarbon #ClimateAction #Conservation #IBCI

What inspires a lifelong career in conservation? Conservation International’s Arnhold Distinguished Fellow, Monica Medina, sits down with our Chief Strategy Officer, Patricia Zurita, to talk about how nature shaped her path — from growing up in Ecuador to leading global environmental strategy. It’s a compelling listen on leadership, purpose, and why protecting nature is more urgent — and more personal — than ever.
🌍 It started with a single moment in the Ecuadorian cloud forest: two brilliant red birds locking talons midair. For Patricia Zurita, it was the beginning of a lifelong mission. Now Chief Strategy Officer at Conservation International, Patricia shares her journey from birdwatcher to conservation economist, and why she believes protecting nature is the key to protecting people. In this episode of the Scientista Podcast, she makes a powerful case for why conservation is more than a moral imperative—it’s an economic one. Listen in for an inspiring reminder that nature is generous—if we give it a chance: https://lnkd.in/d6rKBy4z
