This isn't just good for the environment, it's what consumers want. 82% of people in the UK believe the industry needs plastic alternatives, and two-thirds are willing to pay more for eco-friendly brands. Can a global #plasticpollution treaty be truly effective if it doesn't address plastic production? The recent Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee #INC4 in Ottawa, Canada brought together 170 nation to address plastic pollution, particularly in the marine environment. While the session delivered some progress, it failed to address the elephant in the room - curbing the production of new plastic. This is concerning as new plastic production continues to rise. Bridge to Busan, a declaration on Primary Plastic Polymers, reaffirming that a global treaty truly focused on plastic pollution must address production during the #INC5. The story of our partners at MAC Cosmetics coming to India. 🇮🇳 They packed their bags, flew halfway across the world and came to visit the magic in Mangalore. We didn't know what to expect, it was hot, loud and we were taking them to rural recycling centres. But we were blown away by everyone on this trip. To address the fight against #plasticpollution, UNEP has established Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC)! The fourth session, #INC4, is taking place today, from 23rd to 29th April, in Ottawa, Canada. After INC-3 last year at Nairobi, Kenya, INC-4 is happening, and is tasked with developing a global, legally binding instrument to tackle plastic pollution, specifically focusing on its impact on the marine environment. This international treaty has the potential to significantly reduce plastic production, promote responsible waste management, and hold polluters accountable.
