Deep Dive into TNFD: 1/4 🌍🌿 Following my last post about biodiversity, let's delve into the first of our four-part series on the TNFD and its implications.   What is TNFD ? 🤔   A global initiative offering a framework for organizations to disclose their financial data related to nature.   Its objectives? 🌱   - Identify relation with nature 🌍 - Gauge impacts and dependencies 📊 - Assess risks & opportunities 🚀 - Report with transparency ✍️   TNFD & TCFD : Allies or Competitors? 🌦️🌱   They are actually complementary. Both aim for an integrated view of financial risks tied to climate and nature, thus facilitating the understanding of climate and biodiversity impacts on organizations' financial performance. "Climate and nature are two sides of the same coin. The planet is an integrated system. You have to think about them as one joined up planetary system".   "Nature risk = financial risk" as stated by Elizabeth Mrema, TNFD co-chair. What does it mean? 💰🌲   Nature degradation leads to financial risks. Consequences such as the loss of vital resources, regulatory shifts, or supply chain disruptions can have a financial impact on businesses.   What about nature-related opportunities? 🌳💼   These lie in organizations' ability to incorporate sustainable practices, invest in nature-centric solutions, and devise strategies that not only minimize environmental impact but also enhance financial gains and strengthen resilience against nature-related risks. The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) revealed its final framework earlier this week, with the aim of shifting global financial flows away from companies causing damage or harm to the environment, and instead towards companies creating nature-positive outcomes. Melior CIO Timothy King, CFA and member of RIAA’s Nature Working Group said: “Although healthy nature is essential to economic prosperity, food supply and human health, unfortunately the natural world is disappearing at an unprecedented rate. The three pervasive features of nature – mobility, silence and invisibility – currently make it impossible for markets to internalise our use of nature’s goods and services. The TNFD will be a vital tool for enabling the development of risk management and disclosure frameworks for organisations to report and act on evolving nature-related risks. This will also support a shift in global financial flows, away from nature-negative outcomes toward nature-positive outcomes”.
