It’s such an honor to work with such incredible partners like PRSA Tri-State District and Brandi Boatner! It’s truly a blessing to have Angela Dwyer not only leading our team but also our peers in industry forward research and strategic measurement in the Comms & PR space. 🙏🏼 #PR #PRSA #PRSATriState #PRConference
💦PRSA Tri-state conference in NYC kicked off with a splash as Brandi Boatner compared working in PR right now to white water rafting with a changing media landscape and increase in crises with misinformation and disinformation. I had the opportunity to moderate a panel on trust and reputation with Toni-Anne Blake, MA, APR, Deidrea Miller, Emily Killion and Chanel Caraway, MA. We discussed creating a proactive approach to building reputation, rebuilding after a crisis, and using authentic and trusted employee voices! Sukhi Sahni, comms leader at Wells Fargo and a fellow IPR measurement commissioner, shared meaningful insights around owning who you are, being a business leader and embracing diversity of thought and experiences. She offered three takeaways: 1) focus on what you can control 2) lead with kindness and 3) be a student of modern storytelling....and that PR is more than a press release. Even though we are excited about AI and it has a place in communications, I appreciated Matthew Doering recognizing that effectively responding to and mitigating crisis requires the human, emphasizing a human-first approach. Some takeaways from the "meet the media" session include: 1) provide a story with a character not just numbers 2) understand how a media organization makes money 3) consider the different forms of media and what a journalist might need (for example, sending video when pitching broadcast) and 4) share authentic voices for the media (no one wants to hear a canned message from the CEO). I aligned with Nicole Goodkind's response to how she consumes her news, "It's all about newsletters--like Axios, Politico and 5 Things." The beauty and fashion panelists confirmed the niche elements of the changing media landscape with the importance of influencers and newsletters. Savannah Engel talked about the shift from traditional media consumption. So where are readers turning? "They are reading newsletters again...like Substack." (Another confirmation of my hypothesis!) And to wrap up my post, a powerful quote from Dana Paolucci about one of the most trusted type of voices: "Don't underestimate the power and value of the every day consumer. Anyone can be an influencer today." Thank you for joining me, McKenzie Harvey and Janine Savarese--so great to be together in person! And thank you PRSA Tri-State District and Brandi Boatner for creating community, inspiring conversation and building connection with this seamlessly executed and meticulously curated event!

Generative AI is popping up in all the wrong places: ⚾ Sports Illustrated saw its reputation tarnished when it failed to disclose that some of its writers were really AI. 🐀 In another instance, a peer reviewed science journal published widely inaccurate images of rat physiology. In both cases, the reputational damage is clear. 🎬 And the horror film “Late Night With the Devil” was recently roasted by some viewers after viewers noticed it had used AI-generated imagery without disclosure. AI disclosure and usage policies are increasingly vital as organizations use generative AI, impacting reputation and integrity, illustrated by cases like undisclosed AI usage in Sports Illustrated and science journals. Such policies, like those from the Institute for Public Relations and Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), aim to manage ethical risks, prevent misinformation, and maintain trust by stipulating when and how AI contributions should be transparently disclosed. Chris Hackney of AI Guardian highlights the significant risks posed by AI in spreading misinformation and the importance of robust AI governance within companies. He advises organizations to form AI committees, craft comprehensive AI policies, map out AI projects for better oversight, and set clear criteria for AI project approvals. Check out the full blog by Jim Donnelly! 👇 #AI #PR #Comms #GenerativeAI
