“When you don’t feel you belong, it’s hard to succeed,” said Adolfo Velasquez, a former City College EOPS counselor/chair. Velasquez also noted that “the Native American community oftentimes feels left out of meetings, which impacts their future. "By creating a Native American Studies program at City, it will give a sense of belonging, pride, and hope to Native American students. There are higher rates of poverty, alcoholism, and hopelessness. Ethnic Studies fulfills the demand for relevant education.”

May 5th marks a day of remembrance and reflection for Missing and Murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people across the United States and Canada. It's a solemn reminder of the disproportionate violence and discrimination they face, often underreported and overlooked. Let's use this day to learn, to support Indigenous-led initiatives, and to advocate for justice and equality. Together, we must address systemic issues and stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities. #mmiwg2s #missingandmurderedindigenouswomen 🕊️
