Private markets empirically evidenced to provide the most effective impact investing opportunities. Florian Heeb and Julian Kölbel reviewed the mechanisms of investor impact ( https://lnkd.in/g-ZBrsyn ) and summarised the key findings in the enclosed guide. Private equity/ markets were identified to offer unique opportunities (over public markets) to in enabling growth for 'positive impact' companies, via: ▶ Grow new/ undersupplied capital markets ▶ Provide flexible capital ▶ Provide non-financial support/ transformation expertise These findings do not only align from an impact investing outcome, but also fit the bill regarding a megatrend/ thematic investment thesis (benefiting industries such as health care or renewables), which often times draws on private markets funding. #sustainablefinance #impactinvesting #esg

It’s been a big month for mobilising New Zealand institutional capital into positive impact and private markets. "Currently, KiwiSaver and other FMCA-regulated fund managers allocate very little capital to private markets generally, let alone to sustainability-themed or impact investment strategies in private markets." says Justine Sefton, Deputy Chair of the Impact Investing Network. Yesterday, the Centre for Sustainable Finance: Toitū Tahua released a joint legal opinion commissioned from Chapman Tripp and MinterEllisonRuddWatts on this topic. Areas that may discourage fund providers from investing in private assets, and proposed measures to address these, are discussed. The opinion builds on the findings and recommendations of the Centre's "Investing in Private Assets" report last year. Complementing this, Mindful Money recently released their report "Mainstreaming Impact Investing" to accelerate the mainstreaming of investment in assets and enterprises that have a positive impact. Justine Sefton discusses the momentum in the space, key takeaways from the Centre's legal opinion, and related government announcements in the blog below. Alastair Rhodes, Chair of the IIN Board, and Justine, also share their reaction to the momentum on behalf of the IIN Board. 👉 Check out the blog here: https://lnkd.in/gmfe-7fe

In May Position Green took part in the Impact Investor Global Summit in London. We were glad to join Phil Davis from Helios Investment Partners, Patricia Volhard from Debevoise & Plimpton and Marleen Dijkstra from AlpInvest Partners in a panel discussion on how venture funds are implementing the Sustainable Finance Disclosure regulation. The panel was expertly moderated by Charles Avery from New Private Markets, PEI. Anders Klinkby, Director and specialist in sustainable finance for infrastructure, private equity and venture capital, represented Position Green. He summarises some of his key take aways from the conference: "The discussions on impact is moving from a niche area towards mainstream. To create a sustainable economy there is a need for impact oriented investment funds to raise much more capital to fund sustainable businesses and assets over the coming years. In many areas the innovations necessary for a greener economy is happening at very high speed driven by highly innovative companies, often supported by venture or private equity capital. But in order to accelerate and upscale this development now is probably the time for many capital owners to increase capital allocation to impact investing. In our view the leading capital owners are in the process of integrating impact across their entire portfolios." #ImpactSummit23 #ImpactInvestment
