The rapid transition to remote work settings—a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic— has opened up new avenues for hackers and cybercriminals to infiltrate systems—and it is a situation that is lasting longer than anyone expected! In their rush to adopt remote work, businesses often overlook the unique security challenge that remote access poses. Employees working from home usually rely on virtual private networks (VPN) to connect to their organization’s server and access the necessary data, applications, assets, and resources needed to operate efficiently. However, the issue with VPN is that it does not provide full protection of the end-users computer. Today’s cybercriminals have found different ways to infiltrate the VPN and navigate through an organization’s sensitive data, including intellectual property and customer information. The need of the hour, thus, is an extra layer of robust security that protects privacy across the VPN as well as the growing number of digital touchpoints.

“Zero-trust remote access software provides that edge. Through our proprietary software, I’m InTouch, we provide users with the ability to establish remote desktop connection from anywhere, anytime, and any device,” says Andrew Cheung, President and CEO, 01 Communique Laboratory Inc. [TSXV: ONE], a Canadian cyber security and technology company that is reinventing remote access security. Unlike VPN, I’m InTouch maintains “zero-trust” on a network level. Hence, accessing the corporate network from a home computer that has been compromised will not expose the network to any security risk.

Reinventing Remote Access Security

In essence, I’m InTouch serves as a fast, easy, and secure remote access alternative. Its revolutionary mobile mailbox feature enables users to keep all of their inbound and outbound emails secure on their own system. It does not store any message on the device for enhanced security. “In addition, when sending emails from a mobile device, users can insert attachments the same way without having to leave them on any third party’s cloud storage, thus, maximizing security,” adds Cheung. I’m InTouch also has another notable intelligent notification facet that users can configure to receive real-time alerts to their mobile device when emails from certain pre-defined senders arrive at the Outlook. This eliminates junk email notifications. “Irrespective of whether you are an individual, a small business, or work-group within a larger corporation, I’m InTouch has you covered. The software is designed to leave no trace of the remote session on the client computer when a user terminates the remote control session,” mentions Cheung. This ensures that security is never compromised and that users can confidently access their system remotely from anywhere, even from a public Internet kiosk.

A Cost-Effective and Reliable Solution

More recently, 01 Communique came out with a newer version of I’m InTouch that has several additional features, including, two-factor authentication, lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) compatibility, MAC address limitation, and quantum-safe, end-to-end encryption.

Unlike VPN, I’m InTouch maintains “zero-trust” on a network level

I’m InTouch supports Google Authenticator one-time password. Users can also optionally select to authenticate through a corporate LDAP environment. This allows IT managers to maintain a single password management policy and protocol. In addition, I’m InTouch allows users to restrict remote access from only the computer with a specific MAC address. This imposes a strong restriction in such a way that even if the password is compromised, the bad actor still cannot gain access without physically accessing from the designated device. What’s more? I’m In Touch’s 256-bit SSL data encryption ensures that the transmitted data stays private with end-to-end encryption and authentication.

That being said, getting I’m InTouch up and running is simple. All a user has to do is sign up for a free I’m InTouch account on 01 Communique’s website, download and install the software on to computer from which they wish to remotely access, and follow the on-screen instructions to create their remote access credentials. “To remotely access the device, just enter the credentials, and you are ready to go. We also offer a free 30-days trial,” asserts Cheung.

Defining the Future of Secure Workplaces

01 Communique takes things a notch higher by providing a patent-protected quantum-safe encryption technology, IronCAP, which allows businesses of all sizes to easily transform their systems to withstand threats from quantum computers. The cryptography system was designed to operate on conventional computer systems while being secure enough to safeguard against future attacks from the world of quantum computers.

More importantly, IronCAP empowers remote access and VPN vendors to guarantee the privacy of their remote access channels today and in tomorrow’s post-quantum world. In its quest to ensure 100 percent security all the way into the new quantum computing era, 01 Communique plans has integrated IronCAP with I'm InTouch and transformed it to be the world's first quantum-safe remote access product. The firm is looking for a steady launch of this new product next month.

Leading the Way with Innovation

Established in 1992, 01 Communique is always at the forefront of technology. Cheung accredits a great part of the company’s continued success to his team. “We have a very seasoned development team that is focused on security. Each member has extensive industry experience and know-how in cybersecurity and cryptographic related technologies, which serves as an added advantage and enables us to we tailor our solutions and services to cater to our clients’ needs,” he explains.

While 01 Communique currently holds a significant market share in Japan, the company is looking to expand its footprint to the North American market in the near future. Alongside, the firm plans to continue promoting both I’m InTouch and IronCAP products.

Remote working is here to stay, and with a product like I’m InTouch, businesses can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the security risks associated with remote access are addressed proactively.
