Milliken & Company Earns Works with WELL Trademark License for Floor Covering Products

Milliken & Company Earns Works with WELL Trademark License for Floor Covering Products

Distinction validates alignment with WELL Building Standard features

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Milliken & Company today announced that its floor covering products meet eligibility requirements for the Works with WELL trademark license issued by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). This distinction affirms that Milliken floor covering products contribute to the achieving of specific strategies outlined in the WELL Building Standard (WELL).

IWBI granted the license to Milliken following a third-party document review that confirmed the company’s floor covering products and features met license requirements. With licensure, Milliken is now an IWBI member, joining a network of global brands that actively support WELL initiatives.

“From calmer spaces to better air quality and less fatigue, flooring significantly influences how we experience indoor spaces,” said Sarah Enaharo, director of global sustainability, health, and wellness for Milliken’s floor covering business. “Aligning with WELL Building Standards and collaborating with members of the IWBI network to bring about meaningful progress is the kind of collective effort it will take to create spaces that support health and wellness for all communities.”

Developed over 10 years and backed by scientific research, WELL is a world-leading standard focused on advancing health and well-being with a library of holistic, evidence-based strategies applicable across buildings, organizations, and communities. Driven by the global demand for healthier places and healthier organizations that support people to thrive, WELL adoption has grown exponentially since its launch in 2014. To date, WELL strategies have been used in more than 5 billion square-feet of spaces in 74,000+ locations across 137 countries.

With more than 800 listed product options, Milliken’s modular flooring works to support several WELL Building Standard concepts, including air, water, materials, movement, and mind. By aligning with up to 14 WELL feature specifications, these carpet tile, resilient and entrance flooring products can contribute 14 points toward standard requirements and help to meet 2 preconditions.

“Healthy materials are the foundation of healthy spaces,” said Dr. Robert MacMeccan, VP of strategy for Milliken’s floor covering business. “Our families and communities deserve better environments, and we’re committed to doing our part to make this happen.”

Trademark eligibility does not suggest products with this distinction guarantee the achievement of WELL Certification, a WELL Rating, or any standalone WELL feature; however, it does serve to inform the market of solutions available to support organizations advancing people-first places.
