iCivics empowers teachers with effective and engaging resources to develop the next generation of citizens. iCivics’ game-centered curriculum provides middle and high school students with the knowledge and tools they need for active participation in our democracy. The games place students in different civic roles and give them agency to address real-world problems and issues. They are rooted in clear learning objectives and integrated with lesson plans and other curricular materials. The iCivics curriculum is created by educators, and aligns to state and Common Core standards.

We are excited to announce the new game we created in partnership with the White House Historical Association, Brief the Chief! This digital game gives students an inside look into the historic White House offices of Presidents Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Lyndon B. Johnson and provides insight into how presidents rely on an array of advisors to make tough judgment calls. Learn more in our press release: https://lnkd.in/eKcTzchU
In partnership with iCivics, we created a new educational game that allows students to interview characters from history to understand challenges, engage with people from different perspectives, and make evidence-based decisions during three different presidencies. In Brief the Chief, students engage their historical thinking skills to learn more about impactful moments across the Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Lyndon B. Johnson presidencies. Some historic characters in the game include Haitian leader Jean Jacques Dessalines, Former Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton, First Lady Mary Lincoln’s dressmaker Elizabeth Keckly, civil rights leader Amelia Boynton, and the Johnsons’ personal cook Zephyr Wright. Brief the Chief continues a growing partnership between iCivics and the Association. In 2023, iCivics and the Association released a Spanish-language version of Executive Command, one of iCivics’ most popular games that teaches students how the Executive Branch functions. 💰 The U.S. invests just 5¢ in civic education for every $50 spent on STEM subjects. Our own survey, The Civic Outlook of Young Adults in America, revealed that 40% of Gen Z respondents were able to correctly answer only 1 out of 4 questions on a basic civics quiz. With support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the iCivics CivXNow Coalition is working to advance civic education policies at state and federal levels. Thanks to their advocacy, states across the political spectrum have bolstered civic learning in recent legislative sessions, including Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Utah.
