About us
Founded at the end of the Second World War, the United Nations is an international organization made up of 193 Member States committed to maintaining international peace and security. Every day the UN works to tackle global challenges and deliver results for those most in need. Giving life-saving support to populations hit by humanitarian crises, helping build and keep the peace in conflict-ridden areas, supporting governments and their citizens to advance development and fight poverty, and promoting human rights worldwide are the core pillars of the work of the United Nations and the mandates it receives from its Member States. This week we paid tribute to 188 United Nations colleagues who lost their lives in the line of duty last year. 135 of them worked for UNRWA - by far the highest number of our personnel killed in a single conflict. Since this memorial scores of Palestinian civilians continued to be killed in Israeli military operations. This horror must stop.

“Our planet is trying to tell us something. But we don’t seem to be listening.” This week at American Museum of Natural History, António Guterres warned that humanity is facing a moment of truth and must mobilise to deliver #ClimateAction before it’s too late. “We are not only in danger – we are the danger – but we are also the solution.” https://lnkd.in/eEQVX8kc

Saturday is UN World Oceans Day. The ocean is the planet's largest ecosystem and the greatest ally in our efforts to address the climate crisis, generating 50% of the oxygen we need and absorbing 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions. “The ocean sustains and enhances all life on Earth. But our ocean is in trouble. And we only have ourselves to blame,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “Now is the time for governments, businesses, investors, scientists and communities to come together in defense of our ocean.” We all have a role to play to #SaveOurOcean and #OurCommonFuture. https://lnkd.in/gvjjZfA
